Author's Note: Today's chapter is quite small, but here we begin Ayla's development arc.
From Ayla Leone's Point of View (Bishamon)
"Hey, that looks a lot like snow." Tessia spoke.
It was spring and countless numbers of cherry blossoms were blooming on the trees, their petals dancing silently in the air, covering the asphalt under our feet like a white blanket. The air was warm and the sky hung over our heads like a large canvas of pale blue paint. We're not far from Zestier, but no noise seemed to reach us. Only the singing of birds could be heard as a blessing of spring.
It was like a painting of a spring scene.
Tessia and I were following elder Virion who was walking ahead of us with quick steps, elder Virion stopped walking when we arrived in front of a small hut.
The dumpster door opened only to reveal the elder Rinia's figure, "Come on in." She spoke as she turned and reentered the cabin, inside the cabin Rinia served us a cup of chamomile tea.
After we finished drinking she got up and walked over to a bookshelf that the living room had, her fingers absently running the books when they suddenly landed on top of a book that had nothing in particular about it.
"We will." As the old woman pulled out the book, the shelf moved to the left and revealed a passageway.
"Where are we going?" I asked
"Rinia said that her visions of the future are getting more and more frequent, and that you two always appear in them, so deciding that making the two of you the strongest mages possible was my priority." Said the elder Virion as he started to follow the elder Rinia.
"Are we going underground?" Tessia asked as we descended the spiral staircase just behind Rinia and Elder Virion.
"To be more precise, let's go to the roots of Elenoir's realm. Normally, only kings and queens and some Elders are allowed to enter this place."
"Are you taking us somewhere like this?" I asked a little hesitantly.
Virion shrugged, "It doesn't matter. After all, that was my decision."
We continue a little longer.
The surroundings began to darken, and we could no longer feel the presence of the people above us.
I realized that we were very close to the roots of the realm as mana weighed heavily in the air and only got heavier as we went down.
An interesting thing I also noticed was the fact that although it wasn't bright, it wasn't too dark either.
And the reason for that was small firefly-like creatures that floated around and gave off a soft light.
The tunnel ended in a collapsed wall. Broken stone interspersed with thick roots barred the way. Or it looked like that, at least.
I realized that the wall was an illusion as Virion and Rinia walked through it, Tessia and I did the same as them.
And I came out in a small cave, the strange thing about this cave was that it was lighter than the others and there was a tree in the center. However, despite its small stature, this tree exuded a majestic aura that surpassed anything I had ever felt.
"What are we going to do here, grandpa?"
"We elves have always had a much more affinity for mana than other races, so after years of study, the elders of the Eralith clan developed a technique called the Hruhyral, and I will teach it to you."
"Ayla!!!!"
Tessia's voice is in my head in the back of my mind making me slowly wake up.
"Hmm...?"
Suddenly, my eyes open and in front of me I find my friend with silver hair and emerald green eyes.
"Wake up, the second test of the exchange is about to begin."
