The Bus Incident

It's been a long and complex day that gave me a heart attack.

This morning I ran late. My yoga routine took quite a while, and while I should've and completely regret not doing it, I was already halfway through it. I decided to finish it and just rush my routine.

That did not work out.

I made a gigantic mess of rice all over the counter in order to quickly pack my lunch, because if I don't, Ana will go off at me for not eating. I had to close the garage as soon as the bush closed its doors and took off, because if I don't, Ana will go off at me for allowing robbers access to our house.

However, I wasn't going to miss that bus, because the bus is my only ride to school. I can't walk, because my tiny legs won't get me there on time. I wasn't letting the bus go to school without me. Let me tell you...

I RAN!

I RAN AND RAN AND RAN AND RAN! Unfortunately, I missed the next stop, which was by my friend, Danyel's house, and by the time I reached it, I was out of breath, panting as the bus was making its way to the top of the hill.

I WASN'T GOING TO QUIT!

I continued to run, even though I was tired. I called my friend, Elena, who was already on the bus, to get her to communicate to the bus driver to stop for me at the top of the hill during his second round. She didn't answer. I was so desperate. I texted her and she responded right away. I didn't care about bad grammar and spelling. I just needed my bus driver, Danny, to stop and open the doors at the top of the hill to take me to school. I did and I described in great detail the top of the hill.

It eventually got more difficult to see because my glasses were fogging and the sun was rising and shining DIRECTLY INTO MY EYES! The more I ran, the more tired, out of breath, and blind I got. That only meant one thing:

"That's it. I'm going to die here."

Then, suddenly, by some miracle, I see the bus driving toward me. I wave my arms and scream like a maniac for Danny to stop. He did, and I got on. I tried to apologise, but he interrupted by saying "No need" and "Good morning."

He's been my bus driver for my entire high school career and I am forever grateful for his kindness and compassion. I will also repay Elena in a big way. That's it? Temporary happy ending, right?

Things were just getting started...

I knew what I was in for the minute my mother came home from work:

TROUBLE.

Specifically, with verbal abuse. Maybe physical, we'll see.

As soon as I got on the bus and got settled, I was blown up with verbally abusive text messages from my mother.

You must really regret the excitement you felt when you found out that this woman may potentially adopt you, are you?

(The original ones were in Spanish, so I've provided the English translation below. (Btw, you get bonus points if you're Latino(a) and/or speak Spanish in this family.)
