"It's disgusting Cheryl and you know that. You know it's wrong." Penelope said to her daughter who had just come out to her.

Cheryl obviously knew that her mother was going to completely lose it. She had made it very clear over the past few years that liking girls wasn't exactly something to be proud of. So she had been prepared when she decided it was time to tell her mother the news. Yet it hurt. To be totally rejected and neglected by your own mother, simply because you're experiencing love, was painful on a whole other level.

Tears were streaming down her face as she looked at the displeased looking woman in front of her. "There's nothing I can do about it mother....I...I was born this way." Cheryl wiped the tears from her cheeks to avoid appearing weak or vulnerable.

Penelope huffed. "You actually want me to believe that crap Cheryl. We all know you're just a pathetic little attention seeker."

Cheryl cried for hours in her room after the horrible conversation she had with her mother. Nothing seemed to be worse than telling your biggest secret to someone who should be extremely important in you life, only to be humiliated. As a matter of fact, she didn't even acknowledge the fact that she was a lesbian.

Penelope continued to harass her own daughter on a daily basis for almost two more years. It was painful yes, but the tears that Cheryl once shed for the ruthless words of her mother were now gone. Or at least they weren't visible to anyone anymore.

Just like her mother she blocked all emotions from showing. No hateful words would ever affect her again. She was immune.

"You think I don't notice what you're doing with that snake. I will not let you have another sleepover with that filth, you hear me." Penelope shouted at Cheryl after storming into her room without knocking.

Cheryl was sitting on the bed reading a chapter from her history textbook. She slowly looked up from the book showing no interest in her mother whatsoever. Before reacting she sighed deeply. "You know mumsie, I really think you should pay the doctor a visit. Apparently you're not supposed to abuse your own children and some people might even say that makes you a little sick in the head. Now you better get that checked out, don't you think?" Cheryl said, with a deceitful smile on her face.

"You really do like to provoke me huh? Like the spoiled little brat you are. But guess what dear child, this is still my domain and if you don't listen to what I say, I will have to take precautions." Penelope pointed her finger at Cheryl and threatened her like she had been doing for the past few years.

Cheryl remained unemotional after her mother left the room. She was used to it and didn't care much about what her mother had to say to her.

However of course she cared. Of course she felt the pain in her heart grow each time her mother entered the room and told her that she wasn't good enough and that she wasn't allowed to feel or give love.

It made her feel miserable to her very core.

Though, showing her emotions to her mother wasn't an option. So instead she developed the skills to ignore and hide them. Make them untraceable for anyone.

-
"Babe, why would you say that?" Toni whispered in Cheryl's ear while the rest of the group continued with their conversations.

Cheryl put down her glass of lemonade and innocently turned her head to look at her girlfriend, unsure what she was talking about. "Say what TT?"
