Jason (just imagine he never died and actually talks) secretly finds out that Cheryl likes girls and confronts her with it.
—
Cheryl is laying on her bed, fully focused on her English assignment when she hears a faint noise coming from the hallway. She doesn't think much of it since Thistlehouse has always been a place filled with weird sounds.
She tries to refocus on her assignment when a sudden knock on the door alarms her, making her heart skip a beat. "Come in", Cheryl says after pulling herself together, expecting her abominable mother to walk trough the doorway.
"Hey sis, what are you doing?" Jason says as he closes the door behind him, walking towards Cheryl with a suspicious smile on his face.
Cheryl looks at her brother, relieved in a way that she doesn't have to put up with another one of her mother's hate speeches or accusations.
"I'm just finishing off my English assignment, because it's due tomorrow. However the real question is, what are you doing in my room and why are you staring at me with that smug grin on your face, it's making me miserable".
"Oh calm down Cheryl, I just have a question for you", Jason says, climbing on top of the bed, settling down next to his sister.
"A questing about what?" Cheryl asks, unsure about what is coming, since Jason was sitting so close to her with his eyes fixated on her own.
"Well first of all, I want you to know that I could hear you last night, these walls are like cardboard boxes, so you can hear everything right through them".
Cheryl immediately knew what he was talking about, she swiftly looked down as her cheeks turned into a light shade of red. "Honestly Jason have you never even heard about privacy before, it's a real thing you know".
"I wasn't eavesdropping, but yeah there were certain sounds I had never heard before, coming from your room, so don't blame me for thinking that something was going on".
Cheryl looked at her brother in amazement, "can you maybe just erase those sounds from your brain and move on?" She looked back at her notebook, trying to make clear she was done talking about the subject.
"Look Cheryl, I'll just be honest with you okay, I'm not trying to make a joke out of this". Jason said, this time with a more serious tone in his voice.
"Okay, what is it then"?, Cheryl said looking up at her brother again, getting slightly irritated.
"How do I explain this. Well yesterday night when I heard those noises", Jason said glancing at his sister uncomfortably. "Uhm...at first I thought you were just touching yourself, which I honestly don't find weird, you can trust me on that. However, then I realised you weren't alone and someone was in there with you. So....what I'm trying to say here is that I think it was.....a girl, and you were doing certain things with each other.
Cheryl looked at her brother, feeling awkward, concerned and relieved at the same time. After a long silence Cheryl finally spoke up, her heart now pounding a little faster in her chest. "Uhm yes you are right, there indeed was another girl in my room last night and we did some....stuff".
Jason looked at his sister with an awkward, yet supportive smile, "you should know that I really don't care, as long as you are happy. You always have my back sis".
"Thank you JJ", Cheryl said as she was trying to keep her tears at bay, realising she just came out to her brother. "And for the record, the girl I was with last night is my girlfriend, her name is Toni".
"Oh that's cool, maybe I can meet her one day", Jason said trying to sound casual, knowing very well that wasn't going to be easy.
Cheryl shrugged, "I mean, I guess you could one day, but you know how are parents are, they-
"Are homophobic", Jason had interrupted Cheryl, "I know how our parents are and I'm so sorry for you. What's your plan? Are you going to tell them?"
"Well at least not yet, I'm sure mom would do anything to make my life a living nightmare if she found out and it could potentially jeopardise my relationship with Toni". Cheryl said feeling frustrated and sad, not able to contain her tears any longer.
"Come here". Jason pulled his sister into a tight hug as she let her emotions out, her face stained wet with tears. "We'll figure it out, I promise".
"Thank you JJ, Cheryl said as her breath hitched holding her brother firmly.
As they separated after a minute, Jason looked at Cheryl with a comforting smile on his face, "on a lighter note, there is one advantage we can profit from, since we both like girls we can share our experiences and learn from each other". Jason said with sarcasm in his voice, winking at her.
"Oh how convenient", Cheryl rolls her eyes, laughing at Jason's comment.
"So for starters, tell me how two girls have sex, because I can't imagine".
"Ew pervert, I'm not telling you, that's none of your business, go search the web if you are so desperately in need of an explanation".
"I'm just kidding sis, I don't want or need to know".
"Good because you are starting to creep me out", Cheryl says as she wipes away a few of her tears on her chin.
"Okay well before I go, there is one more thing that I'm curious about, because I know you have kissed boys in the past, so does that mean you are bisexual?"
"I don't think so, I was just experimenting at that time, but most importantly I was pushing down my true self since I thought being gay was disgusting and deviant, thanks to our own precious parents. Anyways, no I'm not bisexual, I'm a lesbian, I hope you don't mind". Cheryl said looking down at her hands.
"Of course I don't mind Cheryl, I don't care about your sexuality, as long as you are happy and can be your authentic self, that's all that matters to me".
"Thank you for supporting me JJ, I'm really grateful", Cheryl says laying one of her hands on top of her brother's.
"Please talk to me anytime if something is bothering you okay, we should look out for each other. And also you might want to be more careful when it comes to meeting with Toni in your room, you're lucky you didn't get caught".
"I know I should, I just wish I could live a normal life, without feeling the urge to hide my true self all the time. Trust me it's exhausting".
Jason sighs, "I get it, but you'll be fine, one day you won't have to worry about our parents anymore and you'll be able to live openly and authentically with the love of your life".
"You should be a motivational speaker JJ, Riverdale certainly needs someone like you," Cheryl giggled, "but thanks big bro I really appreciate it".
As Jason left the room, Cheryl was thinking about the conversation she just had with her brother, perhaps she should feel embarrassed, since her brother basically caught her having sex, but she wasn't. She felt relieved and hopeful for a brighter future.
