-Toni POV
"Well, it's been 2 years since the most terrible thing ever happened to my girlfriend...her name is Cheryl by the way....and uhm Nick st. Claire, an acquaintance from a friend of mine, Veronica, he uhmm raped her during a party.
Uhmm....Cheryl and I were already dating at the time when it happened. We were together at the party actually, when Cheryl told me she was going to get us some more drinks. I agreed without realising there were all of these unknown creeps lurking from every corner. Keeping an eye on us.
When she didn't return within a couple of minutes I went to check on her, but she was nowhere to be seen. So I immediately panicked and alarmed the squad to look for Cheryl around the house."
Toni took a deep breath and stared into the eyes of her therapist, she was such a kind woman.
The woman nodded and let Toni take some time.
"But we uhm we couldn't find her in that massive house. I think finally after about twenty, maybe thirty minutes of looking...one of my friends...Archie...heard these weird noises coming from a sealed door on the third floor. I'm glad he's like super strong, so he kicked the door in and...and yeah well he knocked out the boy that was hanging over my girlfriend...Nick."
Toni looked at her perfectly manicured finger nails and thought about the worst moment of her life. Seeing her girlfriend on that bed.
"Cheryl was crying and whimpering when I came into the room. She was...tied down and just...just a complete mess."
"Can you tell me what you did after that?" The woman asked calmly.
"I remember untying her and just trying to calm her down, which was so hard because she was just hysterical, she was so traumatised I guess. Uhmm and then we wrapped her in a blanket and I got her home, to my mom's house actually. Where we just tried to make her feel comfortable and safe you know."
The therapist gave Toni a tiny smile. "Okay, thank you for opening up to me Toni. Can you tell me how this makes you feel now?"
"It's still awful to be honest, because I was in that house when it happened, I was so close to her and yet I didn't do anything. I think Cheryl is doing much better now though, she still cries about it a lot, but we talk about it together. I think she is slowly getting back to herself again, which makes me so happy. That's like all that matters that you know she can enjoy her life again.
It just feels like I didn't do enough. I was right there and I didn't do anything.
....."

"How was your therapy babe?" Cheryl asked as she was preparing their dinner in the kitchen. She knew that Toni talked to her therapist about what had happened to her two years ago and that Toni still feels a lot of guilt. She knows Toni thinks that she is partly responsible for what happened, which is so not true.
Toni looked at her girlfriend. She was so strong and she seemed so carefree, completely the opposite compared to that night. "Yeah it was good, feel like I really got to let go of some thoughts that were bothering me you know."
"I'm glad it's helping you TT." Cheryl said as she put the plates on the table and lit a few vanilla scented candles.
Cheryl had been going to her own therapist for about a year and a half now, to process her trauma and continue to flourish in the beautiful life she has with her amazing girlfriend. It had not been easy though, to find a purpose again after she was assaulted. However, after a lot of therapy and a lot of talking and processing she finally felt alright again.
