"Can you believe Cheryl Blossom is a dyke now? Such a waste." A girl whispered to one of her friends as Cheryl and Toni passed them in the hallway holding hands.

Toni huffed and immediately turned around, letting go of the redhead's hand. "Can you shut up you pathetic little snob."

The couple had received quite a lot of hate since they became public with their relationship and Toni was positively fed up with all the nasty comments. Especially when they were talking about her girlfriend in particular.

"Or what Toni? You're gonna beat me up?" The girl said back to Toni. She was wearing a skirt that was too short and a top that revealed more than anyone would want to see.

Toni pursed her lips together and looked at the girl with a petty grin on her face. "Mhmm yeah I just might actually."

"Ohh you think I'm scared now huh Topaz? You little lousy lesbian." The girl took a step forward and tilted her head like she had already won.

Anger was building up inside of Toni as she processed the blondie's words. Without thinking she grabbed the girl by her shoulders and slammed her backwards against the lockers. "Don't you dare speak to me like that....or my girlfriend."

"Toni stop." Cheryl yelled. She sounded confident, but deep down there was a lot of fear hidden behind her words.

The girl whimpered, but didn't say anything. She anxiously stared into Toni's eyes as she was firmly held against the locker.

Toni gave the girl a last disdainful look before she released her grip on her shoulders. She shook her head and walked away from her.

"You can't do that Toni. You're gonna get yourself expelled." Cheryl said as they entered the cafeteria.

Toni looked at Cheryl confused. "Oh so I'm just supposed to take all that crap and let them say all of these disgusting things about us....about you." Toni shook her head. "You know I can't do that Cher. That's not who I am."

Cheryl sighed. She already knew it was going to be close to impossible to convince Toni and make her realise that violence was not going to fix things. Her girlfriend was a fighter, both in the literal and figurative sense and her believes weren't very bendable. "I know it's not who you are babe, but I care about you and I don't want you to switch schools, because you punched a girl in the face. I wouldn't be able to handle it."

"I won't have to switch schools Cher, I'll never let it go that far." Toni kind of felt bad now as she was the reason for her girlfriend's insecurities.

Cheryl studied Toni's face for a few seconds before saying something again. "Okay, pinky promise that you won't use violence as a reaction to any comment anyone makes about us."

Toni intertwined her own pinky with Cheryl's pinky and gently shook it. "I promise baby."

(4 days later)

"You should have told me TT, you could have copied my homework. You know mr Beckham always checks our work and he'll be disappointed when he discovers you didn't do it." Cheryl said to her girlfriend. They were sitting outside on top of the picknick table as they enjoyed the last few minutes of sunshine before heading back to class.

Toni didn't look at Cheryl and brought the cigarette in her hand to her lips, inhaling deeply. "It's fine Cher. I'll come up with an excuse." She said after breathing out the smoke.

Cheryl rolled her eyes and looked the other way as to prevent the smell of cigarette entering her body. "You're just wasting your talents TT, you're very smart and I can help you."

"Oh shut up Cheryl, I don't need charity." Toni said getting a little annoyed with the redhead. Of course she knew that Cheryl meant well, but she just didn't care about some stupid history project or biology practicum.

"I know you're not a charity babe, but I want you to graduate with me and I know that you have ambitions. You just have to....." Cheryl was about to finish her sentence when she heard someone calling her name.

"Hey Cheryl, heard you were into pussy these days. I'm sure that must be confusing, so I'd gladly fuck you back into reality." The boys' voice belonged to Nick St. Claire. He laughed and high-fived one of his mates as if he had just made the funniest joke.

Cheryl didn't even have time to form any words as she noticed Toni jumping up from the picknick table. "Are you kidding me Nick? Are you actually kidding me?" Toni yelled as she ran up to him.

"Awhh Cheryl, is this the actual pussy pleaser in question. She's cute, I'm not gonna lie." Nick had a smug smile on his face. However not for long as Toni swung her fist in the direction of his face.

She hit him full on the cheek, making sure that her rings left their mark too. "I'll kill you Nick, I swear."

Toni was about to hit him for a second time when she felt herself becoming dizzy. A sharp pain hit her in the back of the head. One of Nick's mates had jumped Toni from behind, making it an unfair battle.

She could vaguely hear Cheryl call for help in the distance, but the ringing in her head was too loud to figure out what exactly she was saying.

Cheryl was now standing right in front of Toni, holding her girlfriend's face with both of her hands. "Hey, Tones are you alright, can you say something?" She sounded distressed and rather upset as she made sure that her lover was okay.

"I'm okay yeah yeah, I'm good. I'm good." Toni rambled as she grabbed onto the redhead's arms for support. "I just need to sit I think."

"Okay, let's sit." Cheryl assisted Toni back to the picknick table and let her sit down. She gently caressed her girlfriend's shoulder as they both took a moment to process what just happened.

"Oh shit babe, you have a nosebleed." Cheryl said as she noticed the blood falling onto Toni's denim jeans. "Here, I have a tissue."

"I'm sorry for breaking my promise Cheryl." Toni said, she didn't even seem to care about the nosebleed. "I just get so incredibly angry and it kills me to hear people talk about you like that. It's horrible and you don't deserve it."

A tiny smile appeared on Cheryl's face. "I admire how brave you are Toni and that you're sticking up for me. It makes me love you even more." Cheryl put a strand of Toni's hair behind her ear and softly rubbed her cheek with her thumb. "But you can't keep protecting me like this baby. I hate what they're saying, but I know that we're way stronger than them and that my love for you is more powerful than any hate comment they'll ever throw at us."

Toni nodded, letting Cheryl talk for a bit.

"So please just let me protect you now." Cheryl said softly. "Let's pinky promise again that from now on we'll protect each other."

Toni nodded again, but this time more enthusiastically. She intertwined her pinky with her girlfriend's pinky and held onto her finger tightly. They then both kissed their own hands and after that pecked each other on the lips. "We protect each other." Cheryl said.

"Each other." Toni repeated.

They both knew that no hateful comment or stupid accusation was ever going to drive them apart. Their love was only growing bigger and stronger and in a while they would be immune to any sort of hurtful remark. As long as they would keep their promise, they would be more than okay <3
