Toni's pov

This is the ninth time. Yes I counted. The ninth time in a fortnight she's shut me off. Completely disregarded me and treated me like a stranger.

Cheryl keeps switching between two different personalities. She's either non-verbal and ignores my every word or she'll speak to me like I'm an insect. Like I'm not worthy enough to talk to.

I've already caught her in tears twice when she thought I wasn't around. I tried to console her and help her through whatever was bothering her, but she won't tell me what's going on with her.

This is the third time she's crying and it's my last attempt at trying to make this better.

No one's pov

"Babe, what's going on? Please tell me." Toni said sounding desperate. Cheryl was sitting next to her on the bed with her back turned toward her and a book in her hand.

Cheryl didn't budge, she merely lowered her book a little and moved her fingers across the page. "I'm fine."

Her girlfriend sounded stoic and annoyed, but she wasn't going to just give up this time. "Well clearly you're not fine Cheryl, you're crying."

Cheryl huffed and shook her head. "Just forget about it okay Toni." Cheryl turned her head just a little into the brunette's direction, but not yet enough for Toni to actually see her face.

Toni looked at her girlfriend. She felt confused, frustrated and extremely worried for the girl. What happened after three years of being together, sharing everything, getting trough difficult times together? Cheryl used to be so open with her, so real with her. Yet now, she was just the girl she met in the hallway on the first day of school, an arrogant and bitter girl. A bitch.

Before she knew what she was doing, Toni grabbed Cheryl by the arm and turned her around so that she was facing her. "Tell me what's going on right now. I don't care if you're not feeling it or you say you don't want to talk about it. You're gonna tell me what's happening right now."

The smaller girl registered a peculiar sadness in the redhead's eyes as she processed Toni's words. This sadness, however, was replaced quickly by an apathetic expression. Cheryl broke eye contact and stared at something random instead.

Toni wasn't sure if it was anger that she was feeling or perhaps hopelessness, but she did know that she was experiencing extreme desperation. She needed to know what was going on with the girl sitting opposite her, her girl. Toni was about to wipe away a tear, when she stopped herself from doing so. She wanted to feel them and she wanted Cheryl to feel them too.

"Why are you doing this Cher? I love you so much, but you're so....distant. Why won't you talk to me, you know you can trust me with anything and you know I'll help you get through anything. If you would just talk to me." Toni scanned Cheryl's face to catch a glimpse of emotion, but there was nothing except for the lines of dried up tears on her red cheeks.

"Please Cheryl, I'm practically begging you. Please tell me what is going on with you."

Toni was hopeful for a second as Cheryl took some time to respond, but she was soon disappointed when the redhead shook her head and averted her gaze even further away from her.

"Cher, please." Toni tried once more. "Please baby talk to me."

"I told you to forget about it Toni, stop whining like a little child." Cheryl said as she turned back around again and picked up her book.
