I had regretted falling asleep in-front of a large window as I inched open my eyes to the blinding sunlight. My head was pounding and I cringed as I cradled my head on my hands. I imagined everyone else would feel the same. However, as my eyes were shut, the silence was almost deafening; no dwarves snoring, no knocking of empty jugs and no talking.
I lifted my head off Kilis lap and gazed around the Master's house. Empty. Where are the dwarves? "Oh my God." The company was to leave when at sunrise for the Lonely Mountain. They've left us behind. "Kili," I leaped from the bench and shook him "They're gonna leave without us."
Kili finally woke but something was different. He was as pale as an orc and beads of sweat dripped from his head, his lips dry and his eyes screaming agony. "Kili?" I looked down at his leg, and brought a hand to my mouth; feeling sick to my stomach. His wound was infected. The blood was dark and had seeped through the several layers of bandage we had wrapped around him. He was in no state to walk let alone go to the Lonely Mountain, and I had no idea what to do. I need the dwarves.
"Jules," Kili panted "Something's wrong." He touched his thigh, and he stomached an awful scream, the infection had spread throughout his body. The poison from the arrow, it was spreading through his body. If I didn't get Kili help then he's going to die."Thorin will know what to do. But we must hurry or they will leave."
I tried to keep myself together for him but it was getting even harder for every scream he lets out.
I let Kili throw his body weight onto mine, my arm wrapped around his torso as I attempted to walk with every ounce of my strength. As soon as we left the Master's house I could already hear the cheering and blaring of trumpets by the dock. No. My head pounded against my head but I stomached the sickness and continued to pull Kili through the crowd of rowdy village people.
"Out of the way!" I shouted as I shoved past once the company were in sight, but they were already on the boat and being pushed off the dock. I spotted Bilbo against the end of the boat with concern riddled all over his face as he adjusted his coat. "Father!" I called out as the breathing against my ear got weaker by the minute "Thorin! Wait!" I screamed, my voice cracking, hoping someone could hear me. Through the small gaps between people I could see Fili.
"Fili!" I waved my remaining arm around and screamed his name. I finally managed to push past enough people to be seen. "Fili! It's Kili!" Fili's eyes widened noticed us and the state of his younger brother and demanded that the boat was to be stopped. Once Thorin looked over at his nephews he barked at the village people to stop the slow moving boat.
Fili sprinted out the boat and over to us as he searched his younger brother's face. "I'm sorry, Fili." Kili breathed with guilt overriding his expression of pain. "Don't apologise, brother." I adjusted Kili around my shoulder got a better grip on him, Thorin noticed the commotion and came over. "Kili." His eyes widened at the state of his nephew. I could see all the dwarves worrying in the boat.
"I will stay here with Kili, he needs someone." I looked at Thorin, worry and pain flashing across my face. "I will stay too, I know my way around herbs and medicine." Bofur volunteered whilst climbing out the boat. Fili also stepped forward but Thorin stopped him with a firm hand on his chest "You belong with the company." Thorin told Fili. "I belong with my brother." Fili threw Thorin off his shoulder and helped me hold his brother up by his other arm. "Fine. Keep him safe. Meet us at the mountain when he is healed."
In only two strides Thorin was at Kili and he presses their foreheads together as if to send a secret message of familial love. Thorin pulled away and looked at me, his eyebrows pulled together. "Please, keep him safe."
"I will do whatever it takes, goodbye Thorin," I said with furrowed brows "May luck be on your side." With that dragon sleeping in that mountain, I really meant it.
Thorin bowed his head "And you too." He waited a few beats before he climbed into the boat, but the dwarves no longer were celebrating their departure as the four of us remained in Lake-Town. Once the boat sailed out into the mouth of the lake, Bilbo marched over to Thorin and spoke to which Thorin replied with a firm nod of his head. I watched as Bilbo turned to me, swallowing down his wavering emotion, as he mouthed "Be safe." To which I nodded. He would go to fight a dragon; I was not the one to be safe. But I'll stop at nothing to keep my promise.
"Ahh!" Kili was screaming in pain, his knees buckled and he were to fall onto the floor if Fili and I weren't holding him. "Kili." A tear threatened to fall as he screamed in excruciating pain. He was dying under my arm."He needs healing!" I can hear the horror in my own voice as it broke "What do we do?"
"I might know a place." Bofur led us to this place that we could find help for Kili. But somehow we ended back up at Bard's door.
