The burning skyline of the Fusion Dimension glimmered with molten gold as two figures sprinted across the metal rooftops. Yuzu's boots struck the tiles in rhythm with her heartbeat; behind her, Victoria followed, her long hair whipping through the wind. Somewhere ahead, coins clattered—a mocking sound that led them toward their target.
"There he is!" Yuzu shouted, leaping from one platform to the next. Her Duel Disk flared to life, casting pink light across the dusk.
The thief turned sharply, his grin crooked beneath a cracked mask. His eyes gleamed with an unnatural gold sheen, and an aura of distorted Numbers energy pulsed from his arm. "Catch me if you can! I already have my protection—come forth! Numbers 56: Gold Rat! (ATK:500/DEF:600/Rank 1/Overlay Unit:1)."
A mechanical rat made entirely of coins and clockwork gears emerged in a whirl of sparks, scampering forward with eerie agility.
"I activate Gold Rat's effect!" the thief announced, his voice vibrating with greed. "By detaching one Overlay Unit, I draw a card, then return another from my hand to the Deck!"
The tiny monster spun like a wheel, scattering golden light across the alley.
"But I'm not done!" His arm lifted, revealing a gleaming Spell Card. "I play Golden Strength!"
Yuzu groaned, her expression tightening. "Again?"
Victoria frowned, brushing stray hair from her eyes. "That's the third one this duel..."
Gold energy exploded around the thief as the three cards shimmered in a triangular pattern behind him. "With two Golden Strength, I double my monster's ATK—and then double it again! The final one grants it the power of a direct attack!" (ATK:500–2000)
The mechanical rat screeched, its body glowing like molten treasure.
Yuzu braced herself, but her Duel Disk's warning alarm blared violently. "No way—!"
"Direct attack! Golden Impact Bite!" The rat launched a golden beam that tore through the battlefield and struck her chest. Yuzu staggered backward, boots scraping against the ground as her Life Points plummeted. (Yuzu:2500–500)
Victoria rushed to her side, catching her arm. "Yuzu! Are you okay?"
Panting but smiling through the pain, Yuzu nodded and pushed herself upright. "I'm fine, Victoria... it's my turn now."
She drew a card, her movement deliberate and confident, then swept her arm outward. "Pendulum Summon! Come forth—Laureate François the Melodious Maestra! (ATK:2300/DEF:1700/Level 7)!"
A graceful woman dressed in flowing pastel robes descended from the sky, her baton twirling as musical notes shimmered in the air.
"Now," Yuzu continued, her determination rising with the melody, "I overlay my Level 7 Bloom Melody Pendulum Dragon and Laureate François the Melodious Maestra! Two voices harmonize and awaken the symphony of stars! Xyz Summon! Appear—Numbers 76: Gradielle the Harmony Lumaestra! (ATK:2700/DEF:2100/Rank 7/Overlay Unit:2)."
The sky rippled with radiant color as a woman made of pure light descended, surrounded by spinning musical staffs. Each note she touched resonated through the air, soothing and powerful.
Victoria's eyes lit up. "That's it! You can destroy that golden rodent now!"
But Yuzu's expression stayed composed. "Not so fast. As long as Digger Mouse rests in his Graveyard, I can't deal him battle damage."
