The wind howled against the steel cliffs near the Seventh Base. Pulses of dark mist coiled above the skyline, leaking from the fortress gates as Yuya and his team approached through the misted valley.
Just as they reached the final bridge, two figures dropped down from the air onto the blue Crossover platform ahead, blocking the path. Their Duel Disks were already lit—one crimson, one obsidian—both radiating the sinister glow of Numbers energy.
Yuya narrowed his eyes. "Who are you—and what do you want?"
The first man, wearing a red-striped coat covered with dice symbols, grinned broadly. "We're the Dice-Rolling Brothers! Name's Evan!"
The other, taller and quieter, tossed a die between his fingers with a faint click. "And I'm Cody. Under Black Mist-sama's orders, we're here to stop you from getting anywhere near that base."
Katrina gasped as she noticed the glowing Numbers marks pulsing across their hands. "Those symbols—they're under Number Card control!"
Yuni clenched her fists. "Then we'll just have to free them and take those cards back."
She slid her Duel Disk open, its projector blooming to life in a sweep of blue light. Shark stepped beside her, his own Duel Disk flaring ocean-colored energy. "How about a tag duel—you and me, Yuni?"
Yuni nodded. "Perfect."
Both stepped forward onto the glowing Crossover Field. Beneath their feet, the transparent blue platforms unfolded into a grid suspended over the void, humming with dimensional energy. Evan and Cody mirrored them, smirking as they activated their Disks.
The four duelists raised their arms. The sound of the Crossover startup echoed through the canyon—bright rings of blue light locking into place between them. "DUEL!" (Yuni:4000)(Shark:4000)(Evan:4000)(Cody:4000)
The blue Crossover platforms hummed like glass over the void, each hex of light rising and falling on a slow tide. Cold air threaded through Yuni's hair as she squared her shoulders; beside her, Shark gave a small, steady nod. Farther back, Yuya and the others watched in a tense semicircle, their reflections rippling in the platform sheen.
"I'll take the first turn!" Yuni drew in one smooth arc, sleeve whispering against her wrist. "I use Scale 2 Soccer Player and Scale 9 Happy Teacher on the Pendulum Zone!"
Two luminous rings unfolded on either side of her, anchoring to the platforms with a crystalline chime. To the left, Soccer Player tapped an orb of condensed light heel-to-toe, flicking it into lazy keep-ups that left faint trails. To the right, Happy Teacher hovered serenely, chalk-wand tracing glowing equations that hung in the air, symbols drifting like fireflies.
"With my scales set, I activate Soccer Player's Pendulum Effect! Once per turn, I deal damage equal to half of Happy Teacher's ATK!"
The energy ball curved off Soccer Player's boot in a smooth arc and then dropped—a perfect knuckleball—cracking into Evan's chest plate. The shock rippled his coat, smoke peeling away as he steadied himself with a grin. (Evan:4000-3500)
Yuni lifted her arm, voice ringing over the open air. "Now that my scales are between 2 and 9—Pendulum Summon! Swing, Pendulum of my heart! Listen to my call and show us the way! Come forth, Dream Horse (ATK:800/DEF:800/Level 3) and Smile Fairy Wave Surfer (ATK:600/DEF:1400/Level 3)!"
Twin comets fell through a slit of light and blossomed into forms: Dream Horse, a translucent steed whose mane drifted like auroras, and Smile Fairy Wave Surfer, balancing on a ribbon of shimmering water that coiled into a small tide beneath her.
