"welcome to casa de los duns."

"what does that mean?"

"house of the duns."

"oh. do you take spanish?"

"took some in eighth grade and freshman year," he replies.

"your house is so... nice. much nicer than my own."

"thank you.. your house is nice."

"it's.. a trailer."

"i know."

i look around at photos scattered around the house. there's a little boy around the size of two in joshua's arms, and two people behind him, a man and a woman. it's a family portrait. 

"your family.. you all look happy."

"doesnt your family have portraits?"

no.

i nod, "'just don't know what others look like. like i said, never had a friend before."

"wanna see my room?" 

i nod, he takes my hand, and i blush, but follow him, through the living room and then through a long hall. his bedroom at the front of the house. 

there are photos everyone and drawings from the floorboards to the ceiling. there's a desk with a gaming system and a television above it. he has a huge room. much bigger than mine. 

"do.. you like it?"

i nod, and walk over to his gaming systems. he has a nintendo, a ps and a xbox. he has a bunch of shooting games. 

"what do you play?"

"fortnite mostly on the tv. i play roblox and other stuff on the computer and the switch is mostly for like.. animal crossing and shit."

"what's all that?" i ask, never really having money to immerse myself in any hobby.

"fornite's a shooting game. roblox is a series of games. and animal crossing is like.. a deserted island and you make it famous kind of.. and you're forever in debt to an evil trash panda, or a tanuki."

"what's a tanuki?"

"a raccoon or like i said, a trash panda."

i laugh, "why are you forever in debt to him?"

"because i have a stupid mortgage to pay to him."

"what's his name?"

"tom nook."

"tom is such a basic name!"

"i know," joshua says and rolls his eyes. 

"do you.. have fun?"

"yeah, or i wouldn't play them."

i laugh again. 

"wanna play some video games together?" 

i nod, having never played a video games before, i'm very excited to see what it's like. joshua walks up to the computer and tv.

"what game?" he asks.

"fornite," i reply. 

he turns on his computer, "you want the computer," and then he turns the tv on, "or the tv?"

"television, please."

"you got it."

i smile. 

"blue or red controller?"

"red."

he hands me the red controller.

"get ready to get beat," he says sitting down in front of his computer.
