i knock on joshua's door. it's the day after christmas, he didn't get home til late. 

i knock again. 

no answer.

i knock a third time.

his mom answers the door.

"hey, is joshua here, mrs. dun"

"he's... out, sorry tyler."

"i understand."

i stare at his present. i want to throw it out my window. i know he has a life. but i just wanted to give it to him. 

i just wanted to hold him and tell him merry christmas, and ask how his grandpa's sweet potato pie tasted. ask him what his favorite dish is. which family member cooks better food. i just wanted to know his life. he said he was home.

he lied.

god. why can't i just be happy for a while.
