"happy graduation, j."

"i'm gonna be an official adult. oh god no."

"you look so pretty."

"i'm so scared."

"i'm proud of you."

he stops and we stare at each other. i'm not used to his eyes being filled with fear and being comforted by me. he runs and wraps his arms around my waist.

"thank you," he says in my ears, kissing my neck.

"i love you."

"we say it a lot."

"does it make it less true?"

"i love you too."

i sit next to his mom on the right and dad on the left. i watch as they call people across the stage. i'm so proud of him. i can't wait for him to be graduated and then to go to his dream college.

then maybe we could get married. And laugh and dance in the wind. and sway and hug and kiss. it would be just us. together.

and it would be perfect.

"joshua dun."

i hear his name and watch as he turns from a high school student to a college student. as he moves his tassel. as he moves to the other side.
