"and so i thought like.. to a different state or some shit."

"but NADA. he's moving us out of this trauma induced and shitty trailer!"

there was some silence between us as i flipped the page in my textbook.

"whaaaaat are you doing?"

"studying," i replied.

"for the test?"

"mhm."

"how long til that?" he asked.

"few hours."

"how do you think you'll do?"

"pretty.. pretty well."

"im happy for you."

"thanks j."

"no problem."

"what are you doing?"

"watching tv."

"what?"

"uhm. dragon ball z."

"mmm."

"what?"

"i tried to watch it. i fell asleep."

"BAHAHAHGA."

i heard static and faint laughter, my assumption is that joshua dropped his phone. 

i heard more static and then a faint, "sorry."

"you think it's funny?"

"yeah, much."

"m'kay, loser."

"YOURE THE LOSER. DRAGON BALL Z IS FUCKING COOL."

"bahahah. okay."

"don't you 'bahahah okay' me. it is."

i stare at my phone in my hand. my finger hovering over the face time button. but it falls to my right. too afraid to touch the button.

"i have to go. the test is in a few hours. i have to get dad to drive me."

"good luck, t."

"thank you, joshua."

dad's music is a little loud. but that's okay. it's helping my thoughts drift away from the nerves of my test. 

he lowers the music and looks at me, "i love you."

"thanks dad," i reply.

we pull up to the high school. 

"good luck, ty-guy."

"thanks dad."

im out of the car faster than my brain can process. i can pass this.
