"Hm?" Haya turned around debating whether she heard his voice, she was sure though that he said something but her mind was too clouded to catch up with the almost mute voice squeaking behind her.
He looked up masking his plead into something else, acting aloof more so.
"See you at court?" He said watching her eyes grow somewhat bigger at the mention.
Those absolutely enthralling yet awfully baren eyes.
"Y-you'll come?" She asked hesitantly although Shavez didn't understand why would he not. He was the one who was basically fighting the case from her side, hiring the lawyer and all, but he was suddenly reminded that Haya does not know of it hence he has to now pretend that he will be going for her sake.
"Um, yeah I will be there," He said.
"N-no," She said scurrying on the chair back, and Shavez was perplexed as to why would she react that way, "You c-cant show-up, n-not in front of- of him because..because" Shavez saw no words sewing at her tongue and she was stuck.
"I know the reason why you don't want me to go. But I will have to" He said watching the movements of her hands which were out of his sight hidden by the table, but he could tell she was scratching something, the tablecloth maybe. He wants it to be.
She was shaking her head very slowly, "Are you scared of him?"He asked, he knew he shouldn't do that, it was like scraping her wounds but he did.
"You don't know-He-he will"
"He will do nothing" He assured her, "Amidst of us, lawyers, police, and judge, even if he tries to do something that will prove beneficial to us, I mean he won't be able to hurt you, I promise, but our case will get stronger"
"Oh-okay" Haya said trying hard to comprehend his words, just to understand what he was saying, she will ponder over it later but to keep the conversation standing she needed to understand what he was saying.
She was losing social energy and needed to go back home if that even exists...
"But if you don't want me to go, I won't," He said.
"What you s-said is right. I- I have to go now.", she said hanging the length of her bag by her shoulder and getting up.
"Okay, take care," He said getting up himself, wanting to escort her out of the cafeteria but she hurriedly walked away, leaving Shavez to wonder whether he did the right thing or not to make her practically run away.
He sat back, a hot cup of coffee would really help at a time like this so he ordered one. The hesitation, stuttering, and uneasiness that he saw in Haya's actions made him regret telling that he would accompany them to the court.
She was a whole different person now, but he still wanted her the same.
He was sure Haya doesn't trust him, the fact that she had agreed to meet him personally just to lay an appeal in front of him to not go against her because Adnan truthfully did dirty to her, and spoke a lot to him.
He wished things would not have messed up so much that he couldn't even look at her in the eye and talk due to the guilt he was feeling at the back of his throat.
She didn't want him to come because then whatever Adnan accused her of may be proven right even though it was not. He might mock her more that she is still using Shavez like a pawn. He couldn't tell anyone that he was willing, he was willing to sacrifice himself like a pawn does for his queen.
He shrugs shaking off the thoughts engulfing him as the bitter taste of coffee seeps through his taste glands, he did not want to feel guilty but selfish. He wanted Haya all to himself and now he would go through hell for it.
