TW: Angst
Character Death

Will perched on the end of the infirmary bed, fiddling with the comforter and taking deep, broken breaths. His face was white and he was trembling. In the corner of the room, Hazel, who had been visiting, stood crying into Frank's shoulder. A tear ran down Annabeth's cheek as she rubbed the back of Percy, who watched with a quietly devastated expression. Piper had a haunted look in her eyes as she remembered feeling something similar as did Leo as he and Calypso watched solemnly.

Nico's wide, fearful, chocolate brown eyes scanned the room, settling on his boyfriend. When he opened his mouth, he winced at the sharp pain in his stomach and the croaking noise that came from his lips.

"Tesoro?" he murmured. Will glanced up, gulping down a sob and offering a weak and watery smile. Nico's brow furrowed, causing a throbbing ache in the back of his cloudy head.

"Hey, darlin'."

"I'm feeling better, Doc," Nico insisted, unsure of what was going on. "I know I'm still bleeding but the medicine you gave me really helped."

Will nodded. "I know, angel. You still have one more injection, though. Then nothing'll hurt anymore."

"When can I go?"

"Soon, hon," Will reassured him. "After the injection."

At this, Hazel whimpered and Percy inhaled sharply. Will quickly wiped a tear away and waked over to the bedside table, picking up a syringe with shaking fingers. In fact, his whole body was shaking. He turned to the others, unable to control his crying, and then turned back to Nico.

"You're not going to see the others for a while now, doll, so why don't you say goodbye?"

Nico tried to nod but he couldn't so he made a quiet noise of recognition instead. Leo and Calypso spoke first.

"See ya, Death Breath," Leo said in a tone so different from his usual cheer. "It's been an honour."

"You're a brave, brave demigod, Nico Di Angelo. I wish you well," Calypso declared, smiling softly.

"You know, one of my greatest achievements was completing Mission Solangelo." Piper chuckled, sniffing. "You and Will are so beautiful together and you deserve all the love there is. Jason thought the same. You're his brother, even if not by blood. I know he's so proud of you. We all are."

Her eyes flicked to Percy and Annabeth, who shared an anguished look.

"I don't think anyone really thanked you for saving us so many times," Annabeth started. "You didn't even have to but, whenever something went badly wrong, you were there to save the day and you did it because you're a good person. You're a good person who has experienced so much pain. You're my friend and it's going to be awful without you but all I want for you is to be happy and at peace. Goodbye, Nico."

Percy exhaled slowly and jaggedly. "Bye, Ghost King. You're like my little brother. Saying goodbye really really sucks but, like Wise Girl said, you deserve peace. I'm sorry I'm an oblivious git and I treated you so badly. You're one thousand times stronger than me. I owe you so much and I love you, man."

"You're awesome, Nico," Frank said. "I mean it. The best Myth-o-magic player ever and a pretty cool dude. And I swear that I'll look after Hazel. I love her and I'm going to be there for her. I promise."

Hazel untangled herself from Frank's arms and wobbly walked over, sitting on the bed and kissing Nico's forehead, brushing his hair from his eyes.

"Hey, dork." Hazel laughed gently. "Gods, this is horrific. Y-you're the best brother anyone could wish for. You've been there for me since the very beginning. I'd literally be dead without you. I love you."

Nico found her hand and squeezed it. He met Will's pained eyes.

"What's going on?" he asked, nerves entering his voice. "Where am I going?"

Will carefully lifted Nico's arm, his breath hitching as he stared at the skin of his shoulder.

"Home, Neeks," he replied.

"Are you coming?"

"I can't follow you yet, sweetheart, but I'll catch up with you in a bit."

Nico's eyes widened and he released Hazel's hand to clutch Will's arm. "But I love you and I don't want to go without you. It's not home if you're not there."

Will's body was racked with silent sobs. He tilted his head to the ceiling, trying to get a grip on himself. Leaning down, Will cupped Nico's face and kissed every inch, finishing with a lasting, desperate kiss to Nico's lips. Nico was too tired to respond with the same urgency but he tried.

"I love you, my Death Boy," Will whispered. "I can't put into words how much you mean to me. You're probably going to be mad at me at first but I need you to trust me, okay, sugar? I'm going to figure this out and one day I'll go to you and we can figure it out together." Will hesitated. "Hey, I had a question for you and I was going to wait for when we went on our vacation but I thought maybe we should speed this up."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a black box, clicking it open to reveal a twisted silver ring with a moonstone centre. Nico gasped and a ghost of a smile graced his weary face. He wished he had the energy to jump up and squeal in joy but he was so fucking exhausted.

Will was so choked up he could barely get the words out. "Marry me, darlin'?"

"Of course." Nico's voice was barely audible so he tried to communicate his eagerness through his eyes, which Will was annoyingly good at reading. Will grinned weakly and there was a brief moment, when he slipped the ring on Nico's finger, that all the sadness evaporated but it passed. He kissed Nico again, shorter than last time but with no less tenderness and love. When he pulled away, Nico could only open his eyes halfway. Will noticed and raised Nico's arm again. The tip of the syringe pressed lightly against Nico's shoulder.

Hazel covered her mouth and Frank was by her side in an instant. There wasn't a single person without tears streaming down their cheeks, not even Nico.

"Will, I'm scared," Nico confessed as some part of him vaguely grasped what was happening. His brain was a scrambled mess and he couldn't tell if he spoke in English or Italian.

"I know, Nico. I know."

Will pushed the syringe in and Nico's eyelids fluttered shut.

A/N

Sorry, loves. Angst today. However, I did have fun searching up common Texan terms of affection so it's not all bad!
