They were getting closer. Voices overlapped as they approached, all looking exactly like they did in their last moments. Will scrambled to get away, moving backwards on the floor. He was running out of space, backed into a corner. They were getting closer and closer and his back hit the door and-

"Shit," he cursed softly, eyes snapping open. He could feel a tear running down his cheek. Taking a slightly shaky breath, he gripped onto the bedsheets to ground himself, trying to keep himself calmer. It wasn’t something he was unused to but it never got less unpleasant.

"Will?" Nico rolled over next to him. "You okay?"

His eyes were wide with concern. Will winced.

"Yeah, honey. Go back to sleep."

"Well now I'm definitely not," Nico replied lowly, lifting a hand to gently brush away the single tear. "Nightmare?"

"Yeah. The usual one."

Nico hummed in recognition, moving his hand to soothingly rub Will’s shoulder and waiting patiently.

"I don't think I can sleep now," Will admitted in a guilty whisper.

"That's okay," Nico assured him. "It's seven in the morning anyway."

Will took a deep breath. "They just... They looked like they did when I lost them. And I didn't want to face it. I just wanted to hide but I ran out of room. I had no where to go and I had to look them in the eye."

"Guts and gore?" Nico asked. Will let out a short, breathy laugh.

"Yeah. A shit ton."

"Ew." Nico wrinkled his nose, his thumb moving in steady circles.

"I recognised a few of them," Will continued. "Some were kind of foggy. I lost some of them when I was really young. I kept trying but there was nothing I could do. I couldn't save them."

Nico was quiet for a moment and when he spoke he spoke so gently.

"You must've been so scared."

Will's breath hitched. Somehow that meant more than any comforting words he'd heard before. It was the truth.

"Yeah," he said, eyes welling up. "Yeah, I was."

Nico smiled sadly, reaching up to kiss the tip of Will’s nose.

"Want to cuddle for a bit? I can put on your music."

Will nodded and Nico reached for the earbuds on the bedside table next to them and offered them to Will while he put on his playlist. The music settled on Will’s brain like a comforting blanket. Nico snuggled closer and Will closed his eyes, focusing on the now.

He was safe. He didn't need to be scared anymore.

A/N

Hey, loves!

Sorry this is so short. I wrote it heavily based off of my own experiences with CPTSD and nightmares. It's kind of a vent since it's been a bad nightmare week and I would very much like a Nico. Hope you're all okay.
