Nico held Will’s hand as they watched the clock approaching twenty four hours since Will lost his memory. The potion would be over soon, Nico reminded himself as he inhaled and exhaled slowly.

Lou Ellen, Cecil, Austin stood at the foot of the bed, trying to distract themselves with small talk. Kayla was taking Will’s vitals and watching him with a hawk's eyes.

"I'll be fine," Will said. "What's the worst that can happen?"

"You could explode," Austin said unhelpfully.

"Dude!" Kayla scowled. "Will, you're probably going to be fine but this potion is experimental so we just want to be prepared."

"You'll be okay," Nico agreed in a tone that told Lou Ellen and Cecil what would happen if he wasn't.

One minute to go. Nico squeezed Will’s hand.

Thirty seconds.

Twenty.

Ten.

Five.

The room was deathly quiet. Will closed his eyes, a soft purple glow surrounding him. He was calm and peaceful and... and he wasn't breathing.

"Shit!" Kayla yelled for her siblings. "All hands on deck! We have an emergency."

Nico froze. He felt like his whole body had been dunked in ice. Someone tried to grab his arm but he yanked it away.

"Nico, we have to leave," Lou Ellen said. Nico shook his head vigorously.

"Nico," Cecil tried.

"No," Nico choked out. "No, no, no. You don't understand."

He watched as people swarmed around Will’s bed, grabbing things he didn't know the name of and never thought he would wish he did.

"We have to let them do their job!"

"No. That's my sunshine. That's my baby. I can't... You don’t get it." He was crying. He wasn't sure when that started.

Lou Ellen and Cecil were trying to drag him away but he fought.

"You don't get it! Stop! That's my Will! Stop it!"

"Nico, you're going to hurt him!" Lou Ellen cried out.

Nico’s wild eyes darted to where shadows were crawling from beneath him. The smell of death lingered in the air. Finally, he let himself be pulled into the corridor. He couldn't control his powers. He couldn't think. He couldn't breathe.

Thanatos, please, he prayed. Please don't take him.

It could have been days he waited before Kayla emerged. She was pale, her puffy, red eyes accentuated with dark purple bags.

"He's okay," she said quietly, sounding dazed. "He's okay."

Nico stood up and followed her to Will’s bed. He felt all the fear rush out of his body and leave him weak at the knees at the sight of those blue eyes fixed on his face.

"Hey, stranger," Will croaked.

"You asshole!" Nico collapsed beside him on the bed, holding him as tight as he could without inflicting any pain.

"I'm sorry," Will said. "At least I remember you now."

"I'd prefer you to not remember and be alive than to remember and be dead," Nico pointed out.

"That's fair," Will said with a smile. "It's okay. Even without my memories, I love you more than anything."

Nico smiled. They were going to be okay.

Hey, loves.

I know that the plot is all over the place and honestly this might be the shittiest thing I have written in a while but I wanted to get something out and I'm too exhausted to be coherent so have this.

Y'all are the best!
