In Which Piper Is Not A Matchmaker

Piper was not a matchmaker. She was not one to appreciate her heritage. In fact, she actively avoided having anything to do with her mother, Aphrodite. That was why she swore that she wasn't waiting by the infirmary to ambush Will Solace because of love. It was because of irritation. It was because one more week of Will and Nico being so painfully oblivious would drive her around the bend.

She nodded to Kayla and the others as they left, keeping an eye out for the doctor who refused to leave any later than the last second. Eventually, he emerged and almost didn't notice Piper in his sleep-deprived state.

"Hey, Piper," he said. "Not broken anything have you?"

She grinned. Time to put her plan into action.

Phase one: invite Will to the sleepover.

"Not this time," she assured him. "I just wanted to let you know that Chiron gave me and my friends permission to have a sleepover tomorrow starting at six and we're friends so I thought maybe you should come."

She put a little charmspeak into her words to take Will’s mind off of the suspicious phrasing. He closed his eyes for a second and then opened them slightly glassy but still alert.

"Yeah, alright. Is Nico going to be there?" he asked in such an innocent tone Piper wanted to hug the life out of him.

"Of course." She winked. "No point in going otherwise, is there?"

Will’s cheeks flushed red and he ducked his head, mumbling a good bye and something along the lines of 'see you there'. Piper did a fist pump.

Phase one complete.

Phase two was simple enough. It was to make sure Nico turned up and she had the help of Jason for that. He was also an advocate for the end of the obliviousness and he called it thus because Piper made him dump paint on his head when he called it Aphrodite buissness. Piper sighed as she thought about Jason. She loved him but she wasn't sure she could see a future. She'd like to try something new.

Like girls.

Anyway, problem for another day, she reasoned.

Percy, Annabeth, Piper, Jason, Nico, Rachel, Leo, Calypso and Will were all in Percy's Cabin having decided that it was the least creepy out of the Big Three Cabins what with Nico’s whole aesthetic and the giant statue of Jason's father glaring at them whilst they slept.

Piper chewed the ends of her braids, waiting for the conversation to die down so that she could implement phase three. What's phase three, you ask?

Phase three was starting the game. She did it innocently enough. One great thing about being in a large group of people with ADHD means interrupting with a random thought doesn't bother them so that's exactly what she did.

"Guys!" she exclaimed. "Truth or dare?"

They all (minus Nico who didn't know what they were talking about) agreed enthusiastically. Once the rules had been explained to Nico, they started. Piper thought it best to ease into the task at hand so the first thing she did was dare Percy to let Rachel, and Leo draw all over his face. He wasn't so pleased but she told him the mustache suited him and the words scrawled on his forehead were informative. Annabeth laughed her head off.

"Jason, truth or dare?" Nico asked. Jason paled at the prospect of what Nico might make him do so he went for what he assumed was the safe option.

"Truth."

"What did you do the night of October 15th?"

Both Jason and Percy turned bright red and a wicked grin spread across Nico’s face. Piper leaned closer as her boyfriend mumbled something incoherent.

"Louder," Nico prompted.

"In my defense, you were looking miserable and I was only trying to be a good big brother." Jason held up his hands. "I..."

"Don't say it, dude," Percy whispered. "Bro code."

"Sorry, bro," Jason said. "Percy and I wanted to make you laugh by singing Under the Sea and you, being the Nico we all know and love, insisted that the only way it would make you smile was if we dressed up. Percy was obviously Ariel and I was Flounder."

He sighed as the room, bar Percy, erupted in laughter. Percy patted his shoulder solemnly.

"You were a good fish," Percy assured him.

At some point, the conversation turned to more romance related things. Annabeth and Percy had to reveal how many times she snuck into his Cabin a week, Leo had to sing a slow song version of 'This Girl is on Fire' whilst alight as a serenade to Calypso and that was when Piper saw her opportunity for the beginning of phase four. Phase four: admittance.

"Will." She smirked as he shifted uncomfortably under her determined gaze. "Truth or dare?"

"Truth," he answered, the end of the word going up like a question.

"Who do you have a crush on?"

"No one," he said, the tips of his ears turning pink.

Piper frowned. "Liar."

"I'm not. I don't have a crush!"

Piper noticed Nico glance down at his lap with a forlorn expression and decided to take matters into her own hands.

"You give me no choice, William." She shook her head. "It gives me no pleasure to do this."

"Do what?"

"Tell me who your crush is," she spoke clearly with the influence of charmspeak.

Will’s eyes glazed over and he immediately responded, "Nico."

Nico’s head whipped around at the speed of a bullet. "What?"

"We don't have time for this." Piper wafted her hand and used charmspeak once more. "Nico, tell me who you have a crush on."

"Will," he said. His hands flew up to his mouth and he met Will’s eyes, both boys in their own world for a good few seconds.

"So y'all gonna snog or..." Leo broke the silence. Everyone threw their pillows at him but it was enough to snap them out of their rêverie.

"We're going to take a walk," Will decided, getting to his feet and shyly holding out a hand, which Nico took with a smile even he couldn't disguise.

Phase six - getting them together - was complete.

Piper leaned back, satisfied with a job well done. She wasn't half-bad at this matchmaking buissness.

But never again.
