The world in that moment seemed frozen—just him and the baby. If that really was me, how could Miguel have kidnapped me when I was little? I had eight older brothers to protect me. How was that even possible? That fucking jerk...
"You loved me..." I murmured, almost to myself.
"I still do! We all love you," Dante said, his voice firm as he placed his hand on my cheek.
Before I could say something, probably something stupid, Dante's door swung open, and Davide rushed inside, looking incredibly excited.
"Oh, I hope I didn't interrupt your lovely chat, but there's someone you should meet, Lissy," Davide said, practically glowing with enthusiasm.
"I already met Santino...he was so sweet," I replied, glancing at Davide.
"No, no, the twins came back earlier than expected," he said, grinning as he looked from me to Dante.
"Oh, so that means..." Dante started, his expression hard to read. "You'll probably start school next week."
"School?" I asked, alarmed, turning to him.
"Vincenzo will explain later," Dante said, rubbing the back of his head, clearly not thrilled about it either.
"Come on, Lissy. Enzo and Matteo can't wait to see you," Davide urged.
I got up and walked toward him. Before leaving, I glanced back at Dante, who still sat on his bed, looking distant.
"You coming?" I asked.
"No, you go ahead. I'll come downstairs later," Dante said with a small nod.
"Okay," I murmured before following Davide out of the room.
We walked down the stairs, and Davide led me into the living room. There, standing near the large fireplace, were two tall men. They were unmistakably brothers—young, older than me, but still youthful, with the same haircut and striking eyes. They looked so much alike.
One wore gray trousers and a white shirt, while the other had on black jeans and a black hoodie. Both had a sense of style that seemed innate, probably something in our genes.
"Hi," I said awkwardly as Davide stepped aside to let me enter.
"Elizabeth," the one in gray pants said warmly, smiling.
"Just Lissy," I corrected him as I approached.
"Hey, Lissy," the other twin said, his hands casually stuffed in his pockets. He didn't smile as much as his brother but still seemed kind.
"I'm Enzo, the handsome twin," the first twin said confidently, glancing at his brother.
"Mh, right...handsome and dumb at the same time. I'm Matteo, by the way—the smarter twin," the other one added, rolling his eyes.
"It's nice to meet you," I said, managing a small smile.
"Are we in a business meeting or something? Give your brother a hug," Enzo teased, grinning wide.
