I was sitting there, looking at Santino's hands. He was holding onto me like a little kid, kissing my forehead more than once, his touch comforting and steady.
The rest of my brothers tried to stay calm, but I could see the anger flickering in their eyes. At least Dante didn't run away this time, like he did the last time I opened up.
I stood up, and their eyes snapped to me.
"Where are you going?" Santino asked, worry written on his face.
"I'll be back. Wait for me here," I said, glancing around the room as my brothers exchanged confused looks.
"Okay," Vincenzo said with a nod.
I quickly ran to my room, grabbed the phone number that was scribbled on a piece of paper, and tossed my backpack back onto the floor. I rushed downstairs and walked straight into Vincenzo's office.
Once again, all eyes were on me.
"Umm...the P.E. coach gave me his phone number..." I began, only to be interrupted by Dante.
"Why the fuck??" Dante asked, his voice loud and furious.
"He said he saw potential in me. He asked if I wanted to try out for tennis and volleyball tomorrow after school," I explained, walking up to Vincenzo's desk.
"And?" Domenico asked, his curiosity piqued.
"I told him I'd have to ask my brothers first... and he said if you have any questions, you can call him." I handed the number to Vincenzo.
"Good girl," Davide said, a small smile playing on his lips.
"The question is, do you want to try out for tennis and volleyball?" Vincenzo asked, his gaze fixed on me as I sat beside Santino and Dante.
"I... umm..." I hesitated, thinking about it.
"Do you like the coach?" Matteo asked, studying me closely.
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.
"Does he give off good vibes?" Enzo chimed in.
"I met him today in P.E., but he seemed cool," I replied, glancing at the twins.
"I don't like him," Dante said, his eyes darting to Vincenzo.
"Why? Have you met him?" I asked, turning to face Dante.
"I don't need to meet him to know he isn't good," Dante spat, glaring at me.
"But why?" I asked, furrowing my brows.
"I don't like that he's a man," Santino admitted.
"What? He's like at least twice my age..." I said, chuckling.
"Yeah, that's what I don't like," Giovanni confessed, looking over at Vincenzo.
"Lissy, what do you think?" Vincenzo asked, his eyes softening as he focused on me.
He asked what I thought. He was actually asking me? I didn't expect Vincenzo Romano to ever care about my opinion.
