A week later, I was finally able to go back home from the clinic. I was feeling a lot better.
Matteo was still mad at me, though. He wasn't talking to me. Every time I tried to talk to him, he just ignored me and left the room. But at least he still came to check on me every day. He cared, he just didn't want to show it.
"Give me your hand, I'll help," Dante said, standing in front of me.
For a week, my brothers hadn't let me out of bed, except for bathroom breaks, of course. My muscles felt like they didn't work anymore.
As Dante held my hand, I tried to get out of bed, but I could barely stand there like a helpless little kid.
"What's up with you, baby?" Davide asked as he walked into the room.
"My legs... aren't working properly," I said, annoyed by it.
He laughed and petted my head.
"Silly goose," he teased, smiling.
Dante exchanged a glance with him, and they both looked at me. What are they going to do now? I didn't like it.
"You two are the silly ones. You didn't let me out of this goddamn bed, and now I can't even walk," I said, rolling my eyes.
"I don't have a problem with carrying you," Santino said, walking into the room with his arms crossed.
"I can carry her myself," Dante shot back quickly, looking at Santino.
"Look at you. Got all these guys wrapped around your finger, huh?" Marco said, standing in the doorway, smiling.
"No, I don't. They're just making fun of me," I said, rolling my eyes.
"That's not true," Davide said, petting my head again.
"I'm not a dog, Davide. You can pet Jax if you're so desperate to pet something," I said, pointing at Jax, who was lying in bed, biting his toy.
Marco laughed loudly, but stopped when Davide shot him a dead stare.
"That was funny," Santino said, walking past Marco.
"So... anyone going to carry me, or what?" I asked, looking at my brothers.
Dante quickly scooped me up in his arms. "I won," he said, a little smirk playing on his face.
Santino muttered under his breath, "Stronzo" (Asshole).
I laughed and rested my head against his chest, feeling his heartbeat. Davide picked up Jax in his arms.
"Bye, Lissy," Marco said, smiling at me.
"Bye, Marco," I replied, smiling back.
Dante carried me to the car and placed me in the back seat.
"I want to sit in the front seat," I said, crossing my arms.
"But I want to sit next to you," Santino said, sitting beside me, looking at me like it was a command.
I rolled my eyes and leaned back into the seat. Davide held Jax in his lap for the entire ride. As we drove through the city, I felt an odd pain in my stomach, something I couldn't quite place. I put a hand on my stomach.
