As soon as we drove home, Giovanni's phone rang. There was some kind of work emergency, he said. But he didn't want to take me along, calling it boring, though I suspected it was more because he didn't want to involve me in the dangers of their world.

He drove me home and kissed my forehead. I waved goodbye as I walked towards the house, Jax in my arms.

Just as I reached for the front door, it swung open, and there stood Dante. I flinched slightly.

His expression was unreadable, and without a word, he walked past me. Thankfully, he didn't say anything.

I frowned but walked inside as if nothing happened. There was Davide.

"Hey," he greeted, reminding me that he thinks I tend to overreact, and honestly, I wasn't sure if I did. Maybe I did.

"Hi," I said, raising my eyebrows. I placed Jax on the floor.

"Bye," Davide said, walking toward the door.

"Bye," I murmured quietly, watching him leave. Lately, it seemed like he and Dante were spending more time together, and I couldn't help but feel like they knew something no one else did.

I walked to the living room where the twins were sitting on the couch. Enzo was messaging someone, and Matteo was watching a movie.

"Lissy, you wanna watch a movie with us?" Matteo asked when he saw me.

"It depends on the movie," I said, smiling.

"Smart. Okay. We're watching a thriller. But it's cool; you'll like it," Matteo replied.

"I don't think so," I laughed.

Jax didn't care about the movie. He just wanted to rest for a while, so he jumped on the couch and snuggled next to Matteo.

"Your little elephant's here. Come here too, angel," Matteo said, looking at me.

"He's a dog," I said with a laugh, but jumped on the couch anyway.

Enzo tucked me in with a blanket, and we watched the movie together. It wasn't bad overall, but I ended up falling asleep. I was exhausted from swimming and walking all day.

"Princess, dinner's ready," Santino's soothing voice woke me up.

I slowly sat up and looked around. It was dark outside, and I was still under the blanket in the living room. Jax was curled up next to Santino.

"I missed you," I said, wrapping my arms tightly around his waist.

"I missed you too. Did you have a great time with Giovanni?" he asked, running his hand through my hair.

"Yes, we swam in the sea, and then Giovanni bought ice cream for both of us. Jax got a pup cup. We walked through the city, and then Gio took us to the best restaurant, where I had the most delicious pasta in the whole world," I said with a smile, and Santino listened carefully.

"I'm happy you had such a great time with Giovanni, sweetheart. We'll do something like that too," he said, kissing the top of my head.
