After two weeks in the clinic with Santino and Jax, Domenico finally told us we could go home. Vincenzo and Dante were busy with their work, while Domenico had to stay behind due to some complications with other patients. Davide was at home with the twins, which left Giovanni to pick us up.
"I think he forgot about us," I said, sitting on Santino's bed while petting Jax's little head.
"No, sweetheart. He's probably stuck in traffic or something," Santino replied, gently tucking my hair behind my ear.
"Do you mind if I go outside for a little bit before we leave? I just want to breathe fresh air," I asked, looking at him.
"I'm going with you," he said, and I smiled.
Santino's bullet wounds had healed, and he was feeling much better than he had just two weeks ago.
I put Jax on his leash, and we walked through the clinic. Once we stepped outside, Jax immediately started sniffing the corners and the flowers.
Not long after, we saw Giovanni's car pull up. He parked in front of us and got out, a cute smile spreading across his face.
He walked over to me, picked me up as though I weighed nothing, and hugged me tightly. "Lissy, my pretty sunshine."
"Hey, Giovanni. I thought you forgot to pick us up," I said, and he put me down.
"Me? Forget you? You must be out of your cute little mind, bubble," he teased, pinching my cheek.
"I'm here too, you know," Santino interjected with a roll of his eyes.
"Someone's jealous," Giovanni laughed, hugging his little brother.
"Mh, no. I'm not," Santino quickly replied.
"That's what we all say," I laughed, and after that, we all walked to our room to grab our things.
"I can carry it myself," I said, but Giovanni refused to let me carry a single thing.
"Whatever," I said, rolling my eyes. "Better for me," I added.
"That's right, bubble," Giovanni said, and I rolled my eyes again while petting Jax.
We walked out to his car, and Giovanni placed all our things in the trunk. Santino took the front seat, and I sat in the back with Jax by my side.
"I'm taking you both home, and then I have to meet someone important," Giovanni said with a smile, and I furrowed my eyebrows at him.
"Someone important?" I asked, intrigued by the cute smile still on his face.
He nodded, his smile widening even further.
"Santino, I think Giovanni is in love with someone," I said, tapping Santino's shoulder.
"It looks like that. Who's the someone important?" Santino asked, looking over at Giovanni.
"You both are crazy. It's a business partner, that's all," Giovanni replied, but we weren't buying it.
"A business partner? Do you think we're stupid? A business partner wouldn't make you smile like that," I said, raising an eyebrow.
