"Who's calling you?" Federico asked as we drove to his penthouse.
Blake and Hazel were seated in the back, Hazel looking exhausted as she rested her head on her twin brother's shoulder.
It was such a heartwarming sight. I've always admired the way siblings can share a bond like that. I love my brothers—they are my entire world.
"Weird. It's Davide," I said, picking up my phone, slightly surprised.
When I pressed it to my ear, I heard a loud sigh of relief on the other end.
"Lissy?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.
"Yeah," I responded quietly, sensing something unusual.
"You okay? How's it going?" he asked, his tone soft, almost... gentle.
That caught me off guard. Davide never speaks like that. Something must have happened.
"Why are you asking?" I asked, my voice tinged with growing panic.
Silence. He didn't respond right away.
"Are you okay?" I repeated, my worry escalating.
"Me?" he sighed again, sounding astonished. "You're asking about me?"
"Of course. You never talk like this. Something's wrong, isn't it? Are you okay? Are all of you okay?" I asked, trying to stay calm. I reached down and petted Jax, hoping the action would soothe my nerves.
"I'm okay, Lissy. We all are. I just... I just wanted to hear your voice."
My heart melted instantly.
"No way. You're so sweet. I love you," I murmured, a small smile forming on my lips.
"I love you more, Lissy," he replied softly.
That wasn't possible. I loved my brothers more than anything in the world. Well... maybe Jax a little more—can you blame me? He's the sweetest, most loyal puppy alive.
"Can you give the phone to Federico? Is he nearby?" Davide asked, pulling me from my thoughts.
I hummed in response, handing the phone to Federico.
"Davide wants to talk to you," I said before leaning back into the seat.
As Federico spoke to him, I stared out of the window. It was raining, the droplets sliding down the glass. There's something magical about the rain, how it falls from the sky like a little miracle.
"Yes, okay. I'll make sure of it," Federico said, ending the call and handing the phone back to me.
I frowned, confused by his tone. "Make sure of what?"
"He wants you back," Federico stated simply.
Back? Back where? Home? I lifted the phone to my ear again, needing clarity.
"I'm listening," I said with a small smile.
"Lissy, remember what we told you. Remember the rules, sweetie, okay?" Davide's voice was gentle but firm.
