After speaking with Vincenzo and Dante for about half an hour about my godfather, I decided to head to the kitchen for something to drink. They had told me that he's not like everyone else, that his friends are bad people, and they shared some concerning things about him. Unfortunately, they also mentioned that he doesn't have a wife or kids, and that he's always focused on his business.
I walked into the kitchen and immediately felt a rush of energy as Jax came running towards me, tail wagging. I knelt down and gently petted him.
"There she is." Domenico muttered, pinching my cheek.
I pushed his hand away, not liking being treated like a little kid.
"Hey, Lissy," Davide greeted me, his eyes meeting mine.
"Hi," I replied, offering a small smile.
"Why so serious?" Domenico asked, crossing his arms as he settled on a stool.
I rolled my eyes at him, grabbed a water bottle, and took a drink.
I was happy to have a godfather, but what Vincenzo and Dante had told me was making me anxious. I couldn't keep my feelings bottled up anymore.
"I really want to meet my godfather, and I don't think he's as bad as they say," I admitted as I sat down on the stool next to Domenico.
They froze, looking at me with confusion. They didn't know?
"You know about him?" Domenico asked, his face serious.
I wasn't angry at him for keeping it a secret. I was too happy about the chance to meet him to be upset.
"Yes, I'm meeting him tomorrow. I can't wait," I said, pressing my head against the counter.
The silence in the room grew thick, and then suddenly, Davide stood up, rushing out of the kitchen.
I looked at him, furrowing my brows. What was that about?
"Lissy, who told you about him?" Domenico asked, his face tight.
"Vincenzo and Dante," I replied. "They said some strange things about him too, but I still think he's not as bad as they make him sound."
"Federico is a dangerous man, Lissy. I don't want you near him," Domenico said firmly.
I shook my head. "They already told me that. But this is my godfather, and I think I have the right to meet him and make up my own mind."
"Stay here," Domenico said before walking out of the kitchen.
Why were they acting like this? If he's really that dangerous, then why did Vincenzo say I should meet him in the first place?
I muttered under my breath, "Oh, where would I go?"
While playing fetch with little Jax, Giovanni entered the kitchen. As soon as I saw him, a smile spread across my face—I'm always happy to see him.
But then I noticed he was holding something. A small, pretty box.
"This is for you, angel," Giovanni said as he handed it to me.
