"I want to go home," I muttered as Santino gently lifted me into his lap and carried me toward my room.
"If you want that, okay. Let's leave today then," he said, trying to meet my gaze. But I couldn't look at him. I was embarrassed—embarrassed about everything.
"I'm here for you. You can always talk to me," he reminded me softly.
"I know..." I whispered, resting my head against his shoulder, feeling safe for the moment, but still so lost inside.
"Is she okay?" Enzo's voice cut through the silence as he appeared in the doorway, with Matteo standing right behind him.
"She wants to go home," Santino said, his voice carrying a stern, protective tone.
"Okay," Matteo replied nonchalantly, "We can go home. Vincenzo and Domenico are dying to see their little princess anyway," he added, trying to lighten the mood.
"Can I talk to her, please?" Jose's voice suddenly interrupted, as he moved towards the twins.
I couldn't look at him. I closed my eyes tightly and hoped he would leave me alone. I didn't need to talk. Not to him.
"She doesn't want to talk to you," Matteo said coldly, his protective instincts flaring.
"But, Lissy..." Jose started, his voice faltering, but Enzo cut him off sharply.
"What do you want from her, huh? When she needed your help, you were too blind to see the signs," Enzo spat out, his anger palpable.
"What signs?" Jose asked, confused and defensive.
"She was black and blue when we met her, abused for God knows how long, and you didn't do anything to protect her," Enzo's voice rose, full of fury.
"Is that true, Lissy?" Jose asked, his voice suddenly quiet, but I could hear the guilt creeping in.
"Do you think we're lying?" Matteo retorted, his voice seething with anger.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Jose asked, his voice cracking.
"You would've done what?" I interrupted sharply, finally looking at him, my eyes full of hurt and fury. "You wouldn't have done anything against your dad's best friend," I said, my voice trembling with the weight of the truth.
"I would've helped you," Jose protested, his words sounding weak.
"You wouldn't. No one could save me from that monster," I shot back, the anger building again in my chest.
The twins stood there, taking in my outburst, their expressions a mixture of understanding and frustration. Santino kept me in his arms, giving me a safe space to speak my mind without fear.
"You didn't even tell me you were a drug dealer. I thought you were my best friend," I said, my voice cracking as I wiped my tears away aggressively.
"You didn't tell me you were abused by your dad," Jose said, his anger rising in response.
"Kidnapper," Santino growled, his grip tightening on me.
