Summary:

Izuku's nose twitches at the sharp scent of iron in the air and his ears perk up. He's on high alert for the sounds of danger nearby. He knows that he should run off to his burrow. As a prey hybrid, he shouldn't be about – not when a predator is about, and especially not so close to his heat. The heavy scent of blood and the realization of a recent attack should send him fleeing to safety. In his head though, he imagines someone even smaller than he is, scared and hurt and Izuku wants to help.

So, he presses on, following the scent as it gets stronger until he finds himself in a dark, shady patch of forest near the river. On the ground near the edge of the water is a man. Izuku's heartbeat quickens as he approaches, and his mother's words ring in his ears. Humans are dangerous. Izuku finds himself stepping closer without even thinking, his heart racing as he steps within reach of the man.

He's tall and tan, and his broad chest is bare save for the thick leather strap holding his cloak on him. There's a large, bloody gouge in his side just above the waistband of his pants and while Izuku can't see how much blood the man's lost, he can smell how it has seeped into the fabric of his pants and the red cloak beneath him.

Izuku's never seen such a man before, especially not close up like this; his heart flutters. He hesitates before kneeling and pressing his hand to the man's arm. His skin is soft, the muscles beneath firm. Something deep within Izuku twitches. He shoves the errant thought away as his fingers graze over the handle of the man's sword. He recognizes the symbols. House Bakugou. He's a prince...

The man groans softly, and Izuku automatically backs away. "Sir?"

When he gets no response, Izuku can't help himself. He runs his fingers through soft blond hair. He knows they can't stay here in the open like this. He lifts his nose to scent the air, trying to determine if the wolf that had hurt the man is still in the area, but he can't smell anything over the thick scent of blood and the human's sweaty, musky scent. He'd give us strong kits...

It takes him until almost sundown to pull the massive human into his den. The ends of his ears are filthy, covered in dirt and blood from constantly being stepped on while he'd tried to readjust his hold of the blanket he'd maneuvered the prince onto. The blond hadn't stirred once the entire time and Izuku panics, thinking that maybe he's too late. He presses his head to the man's chest and is relieved to hear a slow, steady heartbeat.

Izuku tends to the man's wound, cleaning and bandaging it as best he can before turning his attention to the man's blood-soaked garments. He works diligently unlacing heavy boots and unholstering the even heavier sword. The golden hilt seems to glimmer in the firelight and now that he's looking, he can see the man's name engraved on the handle. "Katsuki?"
