Alethea's POV:

"The surprise invitation-only wedding between King Radius and Countess Cassandra will take place in the Royal Palace of Solaria tomorrow afternoon." The voice from the TV echoed through the cozy room I shared with Stella. I was seated on my bed, carefully painting my nails, but my focus wavered as I glanced at the screen, my heart sinking.

"King Radius made the surprise announcement, adding that armed guards will be in place to prevent unwanted attendance by any undesirable persons," the announcer continued.

Stella crossed her arms, her fiery temper already bubbling to the surface. "I knew he'd fall under that shrew's spell again!"

"Stella," Bloom began softly, "maybe this isn't what it seems. There could be more to this."

"No!" Stella snapped, throwing her hands in the air. "That crown-grubbing, fashion-backward Countess Cassandra has to be behind this! Just look at her." She jabbed a finger at the screen, her voice dripping with disdain. "A purple ball gown in the fall? Really? She looks like she just lost a bet at a thrift store!"

I bit my lip, stifling a laugh, while Bloom gave Stella a patient smile. "Maybe we should focus on the wedding part of this before we critique her wardrobe?"

"Bloom's right," I said, capping my nail polish and standing. "Stella, we'll figure this out. You're not alone."

Her tense shoulders eased, if only a little. "Thanks," she muttered. "I just... I can't let her ruin everything."

After some brainstorming, we decided to take a walk to clear our heads. It wasn't long before we spotted Nova, a dear friend from Solaria, lounging in the grass with a book perched in her hands.

"Nova!" Stella called out, waving her arms like she was flagging down a rescue boat.

Nova's face lit up when she saw me. She bolted upright and wrapped me in a warm hug. "Alethea! It's been forever!"

"It really has," I said, smiling as her enthusiasm melted some of my worry.

Stella, however, didn't waste a second. "Nova, have you heard about my dad's wedding?"

Nova's cheerful expression shifted. "I did. Word is the palace is on lockdown. Security is tighter than ever."

"Of course it is," Stella grumbled. "That's so Cassandra—paranoid and controlling."

Nova hesitated. "It's... um... circus-themed?"

The group blinked in unison.

Stella narrowed her eyes. "Circus-themed. Like... literal clowns?"
