Lockwood POV
433 wordsWe talked for a moment more, sat down at the tiny kitchen table, drinking our tea.
"Sounds like George hasn't changed at all." She laughed, "And how's Holly?"
That caught me off-guard, I hadn't thought about our little assistant for a moment.
"Hmm?"
"Holly?"
"Oh." I shifted in my chair, flicked a bit of dirt off my leg, though Lucy insisted she hadn't left because of Holly, it made the most sense to me. And it also brought the most guilt."I can fire her if need be!" I had yelled one night in the rapier room. It was the night Lucy had announced her decision, i had been thinking about it and needed to let off steam, darting around Floating Joe, in the basement, rapier in hand. Lucy had walked in and asked if we can talk, instead we just ended up standing there screaming at each other.
"No! i don't want you to fire her! For heaven's sake Lockwood! She isn't the reason!"Four months later, the mention of our pretty little assistant sent a warning sign through me. "Oh, good. She's good." I thought it best to leave it at that.
Lucy awkwardly smiled. "Good." Her eyes glanced to the far side of the room where a green glow emanated from the skull in the jar.
"Tsk." she scoffed and looked back at me, "Sorry, you know what the skulls like." She tilted her head and gave me that uncomfortable smile again. I couldn't deal with it this time,
"I really don't think this is the right place for you, Lucy."
A flash of annoyance went past her eyes.
"Surely that's my business."Shit, i don't want what happened in the basement to happen here, us yelling at each other, she kicks me out. I have to go back home a failure. The Lucy shaped hole in my heart will never be filled, not even a night. I cleared my throat. "Yes. Yes of course it is. And i'm not here to try and talk you out of it. We both know you're far too stubborn for that." I smiled, "I tried and failed a few months ago, and i respect where you are now."
"It was the right thing to do." she sighed. Is that what she really thought? That it was the right thing to do, no she couldn't possibly think that.
"Yes yes, well anyway, Lucy." I spoke more hurriedly, suddenly in need to get out. The air choked me, "I'm in need of your help. I'd like to hire your freelance services for a case."thought this fan art gave him because it's like 'hi luce, surprise!' u know? i dont know im tired 💀
