Lockwood POV
1376 words

I sat up in my bed that morning, looked over to Lucy who was still sleeping peacefully in my bed. Her hair was stuck to her face, she had a soft smile on her lips and was breathing evenly. I had imagined this scenario so many times, it gave my heart a warm flutter. Like any day, I replayed everything that has happened throughout the week. Until i caught myself up to speed once again. Leaning forward silently, I gave Lucy a light kiss on her forehead. I stood in front of my mirror and put my t-shirt on and my bathrobe, and headed downstairs.

George was up and making breakfast. "Hey." I walked in and sat down at my usual chair at the head of the table. Picked up the newspaper and started reading.

"Hey. Did you speak to Lucy last night or something? Heard you walking about."
"...Yeah. How come you were awake?"
"The phone went off just before." He answered with a groan. "Some guy talking about a construction problem on the river banks by that lavender farm."
"What's wrong with it?" He tapped a part of the thinking cloth next to my arm, and turned back to the stove. I looked down from the newspaper and read a list of things.
"Mr Anderson Dunn, River Banks by Lavender farm. two apparitions, man and woman, man held a top hat in one hand and the woman's hand in the other. The women held some type of note. She wore a ripped dress and they both had no shoes. Likely a Type one."

"Yeah, was just gonna have a quick breakfast and search it out on the Archives." He got two plates out from the cabinets and took two bits of burnt toast out from the toaster. Scooping up scrambled egg from the pan and plopping it over the toast. He pattered over to the table, set down one plate in front of me and one for him, then sat down.

"Thanks." I stood up and went to the fridge getting out the orange juice and two glasses.
"So, how's Lucy doing then?" He asked, mouth already full of egg and toast.
"She's alright, after what happened i think we're both still coming to terms with it." I shrugged and poured the orange juice. We had told Holly, Quill and George about our trip to the other side of course, but it was too soon and too painful to explain any details. Like Lucy's scream, or the way she stopped breathing. And even if we did tell them, they wouldn't be able to fully understand what me and Luce went through. I sat back down and started eating. I didn't really feel like eating, to be honest.

"Yeah." George was already getting up and putting his plate by the sink.
"Will you be coming with on the case or off to the Archives?"
"Well it depends how high profile it is or not, and what I find out about the site it's on. Why?"
"Well i was thinking of just letting Lucy sleep for a bit, that's all." I thought about how tired she looked, the way she cried into my chest last night. But mainly how blindingly peaceful she looked asleep in my bed.
"Alright well I'm gonna go to the archives and see what i can find, be back soon." He walked out the kitchen, and soon enough i heard the front door close.

"George quick distract them!" I ran along the stones towards the wooden boards along the River bank.
"How?!" George flailed his rapier around in front of the two wailing ghosts.
"I don't know!" I glanced back, "Yes just keep doing that!" I ran to the wooden boards that divided the end of the river banks and the construction sight. The new construction sight had disturbed the ghosts rest. After finding out they were a married couple who had a child who fell sick and died, they could not live with the grief anymore, they went into the ocean to drown themselves. The woman had been holding a suicide letter, she had stashed in one of the broken boards.

I fixed my fingers into the mossy wood. Narrowly missing a spider and two white bugs that crawled out, i caught a glimpse of brown paper.
"Lockwood! I can't hold them off much longer! They're angry!"
"Yup! just give me a second!" I cringed knowing he doesn't understand what i mean by that, and reached for the metal net in one of the pouches on my belt. I ripped off the last rotted wooden board and grabbed the letter. It was freezing and sent a shock through my hand making me grip the paper tight.
"Lockwood!" George wailed.
"Hold on!" I took out the net and wrapped the letter in it. Georges rapier swinging kept going though.

I looked behind me, holding the net in my hand, the ghosts were gone. George's eyes were squeezed shut.
"George look out!" I grinned.
"Ah!" He yelled and ran straight into me.
"Woah be careful! you are holding a sword you know?"
"Yeah, yeah, i know. And i'll run you through if you ever joke like that again. Can we go now?" I smiled and patted his shoulder.
"Yeah, let's just get this off to the furnaces now."

The cab ride was silent. But, thank god it wasn't the type of silence like after Lucy left. It was usually silent because i had done something reckless and endangered Holly or George.
After watching the papers burn in the furnaces at DEPRAC, we were going back to Portland Row. The whole ride back home i had been thinking about Lucy, not just about her scream, but also about our kiss. We had kissed at our stay in Albury Castle, but it didn't exactly compare to the kiss we shared in the other-side.

It made me giddy inside. I badly needed to see her again. And badly needed get rid of the hard-on that was building up with the replay of our kiss. How warm it was, in contrast to the bitter cold outside. How good it felt knowing we slept side by side in my bed. I had wished to sleep like that ever since she showed up at my door.

When I opened the door and walked in with George, Lucy was stood there, duster in hand.
"Oh hey boys!" She beamed, "Want any tea?"
George looked at me, then at Lucy, tutted and walked off. "Sure." He mumbled.
"Lockwood?" She smiled, putting the duster down and walking towards me. I blinked.
"Uh, yeah, just haven't seen you use the duster for about two years." I laughed.
"Well thought I could help Holly out, and be useful." I watched her almond eyes flicker up and down me.

"Why don't I take your coat?"
"Oh, Luce, you don't need to-" She peeled the jacket off my shoulders, her body pressed close to mine. I could feel the twitch of my trousers press against her stomach.
"Your bed was so comfortable, Lockwood." She smiled, flicking her eyes up at me.
"Really? I'm glad you slept well."
"Such a gentleman, gosh." She laughed and hung my coat up, on the racks. I was so confused, she definitely felt that against her stomach, which is so embarrassing. And I could feel my face burning at how unbelievably out of line I just was, but she didn't seem to care at all.

"Lucy what-" But her hand crawled up to my lips.
"Shh," Her other hand hooked onto my belt. "You need to relax more, how bout'. After the case tonight..." She trailed her hand down my chest, playing with the buttons on my shirt. "I help you relax? Does that sound nice?"

I nodded, feeling the warm pit in my stomach deepen.
"You need to use your words." I frowned annoyed, as she pulled away.
"Yes. Lucy." I straightened my back, "Looking forward to it." I laughed and walked off. I knew, from the burning in the back of my head, she was annoyed too. What was she playing at? I wondered, heading to the kitchen. Guess I'll have to wait.
