Kim hated himself.

For a short brief moment, he really did, but then Chay gently pressed his fingers on Kim's nape and pulled Kim closer, pressing Kim's face into the crook of his neck.

"It worked, baby."

"I didn't mean to — I didn't mean any of it," Kim mumbled into Chay's neck, hands tugging onto Chay's t-shirt — closer, closer — Chay couldn't leave him after this. He couldn't believe that Kim truly meant it. That it even came from Kim's mind, from Kim's heart, because he would never. He would never. Never. Nev—

"Kimhan!" Chay held Kim's head in his hands, worried eyes, scanning, analysing every expression on Kim's face. "This is what I was afraid of," Chay's shoulders fell, but then he smiled. He kissed the corner of Kim's lips and then the other, and then he let their lips fall together properly, for a couple of seconds, in a sweet, calming kiss.

It wasn't just Kim. Chay needed it too. Chay knew that his Kim didn't mean any of it. His Kim loved him. Adored him. His Kim was now crying in his arms because he said words he had no control over. Chay wanted to make Kim feel good. To calm his mind and reassure him that everything was all right because it was. There probably were going to be some minor adjustments, considering that, unlike what Chay thought, his power did actually work on Kim, but it also stopped working before Chay released Kim from under his power. So things were a little bit confusing, but it was nothing that Chay... that they both couldn't work with.

But the first step? Calming Kim down.

"Why are we crying, hmm? Tell me," Chay's thumb was gently caressing Kim's cheek, wiping down all the tears that dared to leave Kim's dark eyes.

"Please, don't leave me," Kim begged loud and desperate, as if Chay wasn't sitting in his lap with hands gently cupping his cheeks, but rather standing at the door, cursing Kim for the rest of his miserable life.

Chay expected Kim to be easily triggered about things like this. About Chay leaving him for the stupidest reason, or for the things Kim couldn't control, or simply because Kim would do something bad. Something bad to Chay. And now he thought that he did. Even though they both knew that what Kim said wasn't his fault at all.

So, yes, Chay knew that Kim could get triggered, but now when he saw it, he didn't want it to happen ever again. His breath hitched even thinking about it because he knew that it would most certainly happen again. Many times. Maybe for the rest of their lives. Kim's trauma of being abandoned and thinking that he was the problem, wasn't something that was going to just magically disappear just because Chay would say that he loved him. It wasn't going to disappear even after they would get married. But Chay knew that it would get better because he was here, he was here with Kim, and he would never not be here with him.

"Tell me five things you love about me, baby," Chay told Kim in a quiet, soft voice, immediately catching Kim's attention. Instead of saying the usual 'I'm not going anywhere,' 'everything's okay,' Chay would make Kim calm down differently by making Kim focus entirely on him instead of awful scenarios that Kim's mind was selling to him as a fake reality.
