CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
"Collateral Damage"
STORYBROOKE
PRESENT DAYIt had been a few days since Evander's funeral, and Lily hadn't been seen since the wake. It was like she had just vanished into thin air. Nobody knew where she was, not Regina, not even her own children. Ever since she had flipped the switch and become a Dark One, she had been hiding out in Gold's cabin in the woods. Only he knew she was there, and upon her request, he didn't tell anyone else.
Everyone thought she wanted the time alone to grieve her son's death, but how could that be possible when she didn't have any emotions? She had ripped her heart out and locked it away in Regina's vault - something Regina was completely unaware of.
As she stared into the flames flickering away in the fireplace, Lily spun the dagger around on the wooden table in front of her. The orange flames reflected off the silver metal blade, giving it a very faint glow. The cabin's door creaked open and Lily stopped spinning the dagger. "What are you doing here?" She asked.
"Just come to check on you." Gold said as he closed the door behind him. "And to make sure my property is still in one piece. You should consider heading back into town soon. Regina and your daughters want to know where you are, and they know I know."
"Did you tell them?" Lily asked, turning to look at him.
"No." Gold replied. "Right now, I reside in your good books and I'd much rather stay there."
"I'd prefer to stay away from them all for the time being." Lily said.
"You may not have your emotions but you know they're important to you. You don't want to them to be hurt any further than they have been. Your daughters need you more than ever, as does your granddaughter." Gold said. "Believe me, pushing away the one's you love won't do you any favours."
"Stop trying to appeal to my emotions, Rumple. I don't have any." Lily replied bluntly.

Regina sighed heavily as she next down in a booth at Granny's Diner. She had spent the last few days looking all over town for Lily, but every time she thought she found her, it just turned out to be another dead end. Nobody in the Jones family was good at expressing how they truly felt, but Regina knew they were all hurting. It was plain to see but none of them would talk about it.
"Did you find her?" Lorelai asked as she sat opposite her step-mother.
"I wouldn't be sitting here alone and miserable if I had." Regina snapped. She took a moment to think about what she just said and sighed. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to come out like that. I'm just worried about your mother."
