CHAPTER FORTY
"Bleeding Through"

Regina stood in front of a mirror in her living room putting her earrings on, while Lily sat on the couch with a frown. "A smile wouldn't kill you." Regina commented.

Lily looked at Regina's reflection in the mirror and sarcastically smiled. Regina rolled her eyes and turned to look at the blue eyes witch. "I know a sarcastic smile when I see one." She said.

"In my defence, you never said the smile had to be sincere." Lily said.

Before Regina could say anything else, the doorbell rang. "This conversation isn't over, Lilith." She said before she left the room.

"I hardly think me smiling is the worst of your concerns right now!"

Regina opened the front door to find nothing but a basket filled with green apples on her doorstep. She slowly picked the basket up and took it inside. Lily appeared out of the living room and frowned at the apples. "Since when did you have green apples?" She asked.

"It was a gift!"

Lily and Regina looked up to see Zelena standing in the dining room. "From sister to sister." The red head smiled.

"What are you doing here?" Regina asked.

"I saw your tree and I thought you could use something better." Zelena said as she picked one of Regina's red apples up off the table. "Red apples are so sickly sweet, don't you think? People tend to like something...a little sharper."

"And green apples are just...bitter." Regina said, setting the basket of apples down on the floor.

"That's not yours." Lily said as she watched Zelena pick up one of the decorations on the table.

"Story of my life." Zelena said.

"Why are you here?" Regina asked.

"Oh, sisterly concerns, sisterly advice, you know. I wanted to make sure you were alright after our little showdown." Zelena said as she walked into the living room.

"I'm fine." Regina said. In the corner of her eye, she could see Lily trying to back out of the room and leave. She turned her head to look at Lily and glared.

"Oh, don't try and get out of this, Lilith. You became a part of this family the minute my dear sister here put that ring on your finger." Zelena said, before she examined the room and sat down on the sofa. "This is nice. So luxurious. You really don't appreciate what you have, do you?"
