CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE
"Full of Regret"

ENCHANTED FOREST
PAST

With a rather fake smile on her face, Athena sat at the table in the dining all with her parents, along with the Luthor family. King Charles, Queen Valerie and their son, Prince Adam. The two families had known each other for a very long time, stretching back generations. Oscar and Charles had planned to unite their families and kingdoms one day, but had to wait until their children were old enough. Now that they were, it was time. But neither of their children were aware of that.

"Now," Oscar began to address Athena and Adam, "I'm sure you're both wondering why I chose to have you join us again today. It's all good news, so don't worry."

"News?" Athena questioned.

"Your mother and I, along with Charles and Valerie, believe that now is the right time to unite our kingdoms." Oscar said.

"And how do you plan on doing that exactly?" Adam asked.

"You and Athena are going to get married, son." Charles replied.

"Excuse me?! No, I don't think so." Athena said.

"You don't have a choice, Athena. This needs to be done for the good of our family, and for our people." Oscar said.

Athena shook her head in disbelief and stood up. Her parents tried to protest and make her stay, but she walked away without saying another word. She did think about turning around and going back, but she was too angry about this good news to even be around any of them. She could've expected something like this from her father, but not her mother.

She could hear somebody calling her name, but she ignored them and stormed into her bed chamber. The voice calling her name grew louder and she recognised it as belonging to Adam. He got to the door just as Athena slammed it shut in his face using her magic. Sighing heavily, Adam opened the door and walked inside. "Get out!" Athena hissed.

"Am I truly that bad for you to react that way?" Adam asked.

"Our parents have set us up for marriage without asking us." Athena stated. "How am I supposed to be happy about marrying a childhood friend?"

"I'd argue I'm a little more than a simple childhood friend, Athena." Adam said.

Athena sighed and turned around. She walked over to her bed and sat down. "I don't want this. I'd rather not spend the rest of my life tied to a man, especially one that my father has chosen for me." She scoffed.
