CHAPTER FORTY-NINE "There's nowhere to run when darkness falls"
Standing in the doorway of her daughter's hospital room, Lily couldn't take her eyes off her. After Athena disappeared, Killian picked his niece up and with Emma's help, brought her straight to the hospital. There were several nurses working on Lorelai, working with Doctor Whale to try and work out what was going on with her. But when Lily turned up, almost all of the nurses had scattered in fright.
"You got lucky, Lilith. She's going to live." Whale said.
"I didn't aim my magic at her." Lily said.
"Whatever you say." Whale said as he used the stethoscope to listen to Lorelai's heart and lungs. He knew the dark one was glaring daggers into the back of his skull, but he ignored her. He usually would've tried saying something sarcastic but he wanted to live. "I'll be back to check on her later." Whale said. "Try to control your magic while you're here."
"I'll control my magic, so long as you control that mouth." Lily snapped.
Whale turned around to talk back to her, but luckily for him, Regina and Adrienne arrived and Regina shooed him away. "That man is insufferable." Lily said.
"I know. Be thankful you haven't been stuck knowing him since the 80s." Regina sighed before peaking a look into the room. "How is she?" She asked.
"They said she'll live." Lily said.
"What happened to her?" Adrienne asked.
"I tried to attack Athena and she redirected my magic at Lorelai; and when she tried to run, Athena held her in place so she couldn't move." Lily said. "I know I should feel sad right now, but I just don't."
That was a lie...at least, it was a little one. She couldn't work out what it was but something felt different, almost like emotion was trying to break through but it kept hitting a brick wall. She watched Adrienne closely as she walked into the room. The only one of her three children that was yet to die or become injured because of her mother's actions.
And Lily was determined to make sure that her youngest child wasn't going to get hurt. At least not anymore than she already had been. "Stay with them." Lily quietly said to Regina. "I don't want anyone to go near them. Not even Whale."
"Lorelai is his patient. He'll want to check on her." Regina said.
"Whale's a creep. If needs be, have Mother Superior check her." Lily said. She glanced up at the clock that hung on the wall in Lorelai's room, and then glanced back at her daughters. For a very brief moment, she thought about staying with them until Lorelai woke up; but that would mean Athena would get away with what she was done. It also posed the risk of Athena hurting somebody else that Lily loved and cared for. No doubt Alice or Ophelia would've become the targets.
