CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
"White Dresses and Silver Rings"

ENCHANTED FOREST
SIX MONTHS AGO

The sun was shining and the sky was blue. Birds were chirping in the trees. Nobody had heard from the Wicked Witch in days. For that moment in time, everything seemed okay. It seemed normal...or as normal as you could get in the Enchanted Forest. Lily sat on the edge of a small cliff and looked out into the distance. Just over the hill was the kingdom where she used to live. She hadn't been back there since she created the portal that took her to Storybrooke. She contemplated going back but didn't know if it would be worth it. What would be the point?

She closed her eyes for a moment, allowing the gentle breeze to flow through her long hair. She had taken it out of the braid a few weeks ago, and only tied it up when she needed to. She sighed but couldn't decide which end of the scale it was on - happiness or sadness. The sound of a magical poof made Lily open her eyes.

"You could've told me you were going somewhere." Regina scolded. "I was worried about you."

"Sorry." Lily said. "I just wanted to get some air and you were asleep. I didn't want to disturb you."

Lily returned to looking back at the mountain. Regina frowned in confusion. "Why do you appear to be so fascinated by that view?" She asked.

"A few miles beyond it is my home. Its where I raised by children after escaping the living hell that was my marriage to Henrik." Lily sighed.

"Henrik? Your children's father?" Regina questioned as she sat next to Lily, though the Evil Queen outfit she wore made the sitting down much less graceful than she wanted.

Lily shook her head. "Just Evander and Adrienne's father. He killed my mother when Lorelai was just a baby, and forced me to go with him. He had threatened to end her life and despite my power, despite how easily I could've fought him...I was too scared. I couldn't risk anything happening to my daughter. He forced me to do things I didn't want to do. And I didn't do anything about it. I didn't run away, I didn't scream. I just cried until eventually I felt nothing. Then one day I snapped and threw him out of a window where he died after landing head first on the ground. That was the day I became The Dark Witch. The stone cold evil sorceress that was impossible to love."

"Do you still think that about yourself? That you're unlovable?" Regina asked.

"Sometimes." Lily said, pausing briefly before sighing again. "All of the time."

Regina's eyes softened with sadness as she looked at Lily. She knew damn well that wasn't true. Her children loved her, as did her mother and grandmother. Her brother probably did, Regina wasn't completely sure about that.
