CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR
"Frozen"
Still with the haunted look on her face, Lily could not take her eyes off the ghost that was standing right before her. Her son, her baby boy. He was alive? But...how? Was everything she went through with Athena, with becoming a Dark One...was it all for nothing? She was sure she was going insane. She had to be. She saw her son die with her own eyes. She saw his heart get crushed and turned into dust.
It was impossible for him to be there but he was.
Blinking, breathing, living. He was there. How could she possibly deny what was right in front of her?
The undead archer took a step toward his mother, but she immediately backed away from him. The tears in her eyes were a mixture of heartbreak, confusion and a tiniest bit of anger. She was beginning to question whether or not she had hit her head on the walk to the cabin; either that or she was completely losing her mind. "Well, this isn't the most heart-warming reunions I've ever witnessed." Astrid commented, earning a stern glare from Evander. "What?" She questioned.
"Shut up." He hissed. The blonde rolled her eyes before she disappeared inside the cabin, waving her hand to magically close the door behind her. Evander nervously cleared his throat before he turned his head back around to face his mother. He was trying to keep his brave face on but that was hard to do when your mother was looking at you; and looking so heartbroken.
He understood why she looked that way. He didn't come back without his memories, especially the memory of how he died. He remembered the sound of his mother's cries and screams. It broke his heart to remember her that way. "Mother-"
"How?"
Evander frowned slightly, he had never heard his mother's voice so quiet and she sounded so vulnerable. "I, uh..." he began, "I don't know-"
"How are you alive?!" Lily raised her voice. "You are dead! I saw you die! I held your body..." She lowered the tone of voice as it began to brake, sobs threatening to begin at any second. "I buried you. I watched as you were lowered into the ground and I lost my humanity...and you weren't even dead!"
"For a time, I was dead. I was dead and buried." Evander stumbled over his words, trying to work out the best order to put them in. There was no easy way to explain something he wasn't completely sure of himself. One minute he was in an immense amount of pain, the next he felt nothing at all, the one after that he was in a strange version of Storybrooke; and not long after that, he woke up in Gold's cabin with Astrid looking down at him.
