CHAPTER ONE
"The Jolly Roger"
The sounds, smells and sights of Storybrooke all felt so foreign to Lily. She could never imagine her brother living in a place like this. The last she had heard about him, he was a pirate captain on a ship sailing the open seas. Then she heard he was hiding out in this small town. She couldn't quite understand why she decided to track him down. A part of her knew it was because she was lonely and wanted her family back. The other part of her ignored the first part because she felt needing somebody made her weak.
People who were walking down the same side of the street as Lily would cross when they saw her. She smirked slightly at their reactions. She didn't recognise anyone, but it was clear they were aware of who she was. She was kind of impressed that her reputation had made it all the way to this strange, little town.
Lily continued her walk through Storybrooke until she found herself at the docks. She was sure her brother's ship would be here. Where else would it be kept?
He must've had somebody enchant it. She thought.
Killian Jones was no idiot...most of the time. He knew how to be sneaky, he learned to be at a young age. Staying silent and unseen was vital to how the twins survived on the ship their father had abandoned them on. If they kept their heads down, they would stay out of trouble - something the pair of them rarely lived by these days.
In one of the docking areas, she noticed the water looking a little different. It looked disorientated, almost as if something invisible was sitting on top of it. She conjured up a rock in her hand and threw it in the general direction of the plank leading up to the ship, and it landed on the invisible piece of wood. She smiled.
Hearing footsteps approaching from behind, she flicked her wrist and quickly made the rock fall into the water below. She turned to her right, prepared to just walk away, like she hadn't been there and nothing happened, but then she saw who was walking towards her; and she froze in her tracks. As did the other person. "Killian?" Lily barely managed to say her brother's name above a whisper.
"Lily?" Killian stared at his sister. He couldn't quite believe that she was standing in front of him.
The inner child for both of them wanted to hug the other, but they were both too stunned to even move. Lily knew she would be seeing her brother again. She wasn't going to leave Storybrooke without setting her eyes on him. But now that she has, she didn't know what to do. She couldn't quite figure out what to do or even what to say.
"How..." Killian tried to talk but he couldn't find the words. He was in too much shock after seeing his long lost sister. The last time he had seen her she was a nineteen year old girl on the ship where they were being forced to work as slaves. He heard stories about what she had done, but he never thought he would be seeing her again...or that they were true.
"I still have this." Lily said, holding up Killian's old necklace. "This worked a treat along with my locator spell to find you."
Not wanting any witnesses to spot them, Killian took Lily aboard the ship so they could talk away from any prying eyes and ears. He hadn't been in town long, but he had already been made aware that the people there talked; especially when a stranger turned up.
"Welcome aboard the Jolly Roger." Killian said proudly. "Much better than the dump our father left us on, if I do say so myself. Now that we have some privacy...what are you doing here?"
Lily sighed quietly as paced around a little bit. "I've been alone and I wanted to track my family down, so that I wouldn't be any longer." She stopped pacing and looked at her brother. "It wasn't easy finding you, but I did. The fact you spent most of your time sailing the seas made finding you rather difficult."
"Where have you been this entire time? I've heard rumours of your doings, but I'm unsure on how true any of it is." Killian said.
"I've been...places." Lily simply answered.
"Who have you been with?"
"I've been alone."
"For almost a hundred and ninety years?"
"Yes."
Killian sighed heavily as he sat down on a barrel. He looked at his sister, not knowing what else to say. The two of them were so close as children and now here they are: practically strangers. They could pretend like they know each other but they didn't. Not really. Not anymore. And deep down, that broke both of their hearts. You wouldn't hear either of them admitting that though.
Lily cleared her throat, "I, uh, if you want the truth." She said, "I guess I came looking for you because I'm fed up with being alone. And since mother and father are long gone, you and Liam are the only family that I have left."
Heartbreak flashed across Killian's eyes as Lily mentioned their older brother's name. Lily noticed this straight away and frowned. "What is it?" She asked.
"Liam's dead." Killian said, looking up at her waiting to see how she would react. He had expected her to cry, to be sad but there was nothing. Her face was blank. "You aren't going to cry?" He asked.
"I ran out of tears a long time ago." Lily shrugged.
"I'm sorry." Killian said. "I'm sorry for what I did. I'm sure Liam would be sorry too."
"The word sorry lost all meaning to me a long time ago." Lily said. "There are only so many times you can hear the same thing before it loses meaning."
"What about brother?" Killain asked.
"My brothers abandoned me when I was nineteen." Lily answered.
"That wasn't by choice." Killian said.
Lily laughed, "yeah, right! You were waiting to abandon me the moment father did."
"That is not true!" Killian snapped as he stood up. "You are my sister! My twin! I loved you!"
"You don't abandon people you love! You don't leave them behind to get..." Lily trailed off as tears began to gather in her eyes. Killian reached out to touch her arm, but she quickly pushed him away.
She started to walk away from him and leave the ship, but Killian caught her arm with his hook. She turned to look at him with a glare.
"Where are you going?" Killian asked.
Without answering her brother's question, Lily pulled her arm free and left the ship. She always managed to keep her composure, no matter how stressful the situation was. There were only a handful of times in her past where she couldn't keep herself together, and she refused to let her brother add himself to that list. She couldn't let herself break down in front of him, no matter how much she wanted to.
