"Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." - 2 Corinthians 5:17
Sneaking out had been all too easy for Annalise Goode and Peyton Newman. Anna took them through a passageway and in a matter of minutes they were off of school property. They went to the nearest car dealership where Anna efficiently disabled the security systems. As Peyton hot-wired a car, Anna hacked the dealership system and entered the car in as sold. Anna knew that by morning there would be a few head scratches, but everyone would believe that there was no missing car. The pair had left school at one in the morning and were on the road by 1:45.
"So where exactly are we going?" Anna asked. Her and Peyton had focused so much on getting out of school that they had forgotten to decide where to look for Bree and Chase first.
"Well, I doubt that they would stay in the states. Wanna take this international?" He asked. Anna gulped. She would already be in trouble for leaving in the first place. Leaving the country would definitely get her grounded forever.
"Where do you think they would go?" Anna asked, looking for a lead.
"He's your brother, where do you think he would go?" Peyton countered.
"I honestly have no idea, we didn't think this through," Anna admitted.
"Let's go to Birmingham. One of my old schoolmates owned this sweet vacation place we could stay at," Peyton offered.
"No, your parents live in Birmingham. We're not exactly running away if we run straight to them. Let's get a legitimate lead. I'm willing to bet someone knows where they are. Someone who could help them get set up and keep them financially stable. Someone who's loyalty to them would be unshakeable."
"Your parents?"
"No, too obvious. Think about it! They'll need money. They can't do any normal jobs because they would be at risk of being found. They need fieldwork jobs. Now who do we know that just happens to be a director of the CIA?"
"Agent Townsend!" Peyton exclaimed. "That's perfect!"
"Ya right," Anna scoffed. "It's not like he's one of the most secretive, security ridden people ever."
"We can just check his phone logs and see if it pings a location," Peyton shrugged.
"Impossible," Anna muttered.
"It isn't either!" Peyton protested, his British accent coming out. "Do you remember when we were young and he showed us how to wire a phone so that we could view the call logs? He let us do it to his family only phone. I still remember how to pull it up."
"You're a genius!"
"Looks like the last call he made was to Brazil."
"Let's go!" Anna squealed. She made a quick U turn and the two were off to the airport. Peyton grabbed their disguises out of their go bags and quickly made fake passports and ID's. Security gave them and odd look.
"Where are your parents?" They asked Anna. She rolled her eyes. Annalise was older than Peyton, but he looked so much older.
"They're missionaries, I'm meeting them in Brazil for the summer. He's taking me, he's coming with our church to help," Anna said as she gestured to Peyton. His ID said 21 which was definitely a stretch, but once Peyton started using pilot speak to a nearby pilot, they bought it.
The duo was lucky enough to get seats right next to each other. Peyton wanted the window seat, which Anna happily gave up. She took a few deep breaths and tried to calm her nerves. Anna closed her eyes. Somewhere in the time where she had closed her eyes, Peyton must have stopped fumbling with paperwork and noticed her nerves. Peyton cupped her chin and turned her head to face him. Anna opened her eyes and smiled as Peyton grinned at her.
"Don't tell me you're still afraid of heights, Annie," he laughed. "I thought you'd be over that fear by now."
When the duo was young, their parents had a get together that all of the kids were invited to as well. Peyton had convinced Anna to climb a huge tree that was in the yard. Anna hated heights, but she climbed it anyways so that Peyton wouldn't think she was a baby. Once they reached the top, Anna realized how high off the ground they truly were. She began crying and Peyton couldn't help but laugh. He had always been a daredevil and couldn't understand Anna's fears. Once he realized how scared she truly was, he told her to stay put and went for help. He came back minutes later with Chase, who climbed up the tree and carried Anna down. Peyton felt so bad about it that when they went to the boardwalk later, he bought her a bag of candy at the sweet shop to make up for it.
"I can manage them. I don't freak out and cry anymore. I still don't like them. Not one bit," Anna sighed as she closed her eyes again. During takeoff Anna's nerves really set in. She began to close her eyes and take deep breaths. Peyton didn't say a word, he didn't need to. He simply took her hand. Immediately, Anna's nerves were gone. In that moment, Peyton was so steady that Anna truly believed that nothing could go wrong.

Once they got to Brazil everything went wrong. The couple tried to find a place to stay in the mountains. They bought groceries. Stupidly, Peyton tried to purchase a pack of beer. Security quickly realized he was lying. Anna wanted to just admit it was fake and take the consequences, but Peyton had already grabbed her hand and was running. They were chased all the way to the Avencal Waterfall. Anna looked down and tried not to vomit.
"Please tell me you're not considering to jump," Anna whimpered. Peyton locked eyes with her. His look said it all.
"They're gaining on us," Peyton said as security neared.
"Peyton, I'm scared!" Annalise Goode yelled to the handsome boy next to her. He grabbed her hand with his huge one.
"You want answers? This is the way," he assured her. Anna gripped his hand as tightly as she could, looked over the mountain at the water cascading below, and jumped.
The free fall scared Anna so bad that once the air hit her, she fainted. The second they smacked the water, their hands released. Peyton bobbed to the surface laughing.
"That was bloody awesome! You kicked your fear right in the ass!" He crowed. Peyton whipped around, searching for Anna. "Annie? Annalise!" Peyton dove underwater. He came back up coughing. "Annalise!" Peyton dove under again and felt her curly hair brush against his hand. He pulled as Anna's head bobbed back up to the surface. She began hacking and coughing the minute she hit the surface.
"What... Happened?" She asked between gasps. Peyton pulled her to the edge, and she lay on the ground. Peyton's heart was pounding.
"I'm not sure. I don't know if you just got stuck under the current or if the impact made you pass out or if it was the fear. I'm so sorry," he said, voice cracking.
"It's okay, I'm okay," Anna breathed.
"I thought I lost you," Peyton whispered. He looked away from Anna and his back lightly shook. He was crying. Anna had no idea he cared.
