Chase Goode walked through the Gallagher Academy with ease. He was finally somewhere that he could keep his sister safe. He passed the statue of his mother. He looked at every piece of stained glass they had made in her honor. He smiled at the one of his mother and father. His father looked exactly like him.
He made his way down every hallway and walked closer to the grand hall. Abrielle was walking beside him. His fathers friend Jonas was leading the group. Abrielle and Jonas were the 2 teachers that would be accompanying them during the exchange.
They stopped at the doors of the grand hall. Chase peaked through. He saw tons of girls sitting and eating and laughing. He scanned the room until he layed eyes on his sister. She was sitting at a table with her roommates. Chase knew Diana, she was Macey and Preston's daughter. The other roommate, Caroline, Chase had never met. He watched Bex and Grant's twin daughters Amelia and Adalind got up and sat next to his sister. An 8th grader sitting with juniors? Odd.
That's when Chase saw her. She was beautiful. She had long blonde hair that cascaded down her back like a waterfall. Her hair was wavy. It looked like the beach waves that his mother payed money to have, but he knew hers were natural. The girl had a piercing combination of blue and green eyes. They were bright. She walked with a bounce in her step. She had the brightest smile. Chase knew if love at first sight was real, he had just felt it. The beautiful girl sat next to his sister and gave her a hug.
His grandmother Rachel began speaking. Chase made his way to the front of the head table. He watched every girl in the room swoon over him. His grandmother put a hand on his shoulder and continued her speech. Chase had no idea what she was saying, for he was too busy studying the beautiful blonde.
He finally pealed his eyes away from the girl to look at his sister. She caught his eye. He gave her a wink. Sooner or later every girl in the room would realize that him and Annalise were siblings. He knew Anna would recieve a million questions about him. The most repetitive one being "is he single?"
Gallagher girls were striking. In more ways than one. It would have been possible for any guy to fall for any of the girls in the room. Chase only had eyes for 1. Chase saw something that he knew he had to have.
He watched the girl all throughout his meal. He noticed a lot of things about that girl. He knew that she was right handed, but she was eating with her left. He assumed it was so that she could be better with her left side. He noticed how she was one of the only girls that wasn't staring or flirting with the boys.  Yet, all the boys were staring at her. He noticed how her smile was utterly real. What he noticed the most was the protective position she placed herself in when she was near his sister. He watched the small amounts of pain cross her eyes. He watched as she got up and left the table.
Chase wasn't a stalker. He wasn't a creep. Still, something was drawing him near this girl. She was a honeypot, that much was obvious. Any smart agent would know to look the other way. Chase, however, knew that nothing is ever how it seems.
He followed the girl. He watched her turn down a hallway. He quickly turned and ran in the other direction. He opened a passage that his mother had shown him years before and beat the girl to the other side. He bumped into her.
"Sorry," he muttered. He grabbed her hands to stabilize her. She looked up and their eyes met. He watched her mouth drop open slightly. She was staring at him intently. He watched her pupils dilate a lot. He watched the sparkle cross her eyes. He felt the shock of electricity as he grabbed her hands. They just stood there and stared at each other for what felt like forever. Finally, the girl pulled away.
"My fault," she replied. She smiled her bright smile at him. He tried not to melt. He was an excellent agent, so he kept his composure.
"Watch where you're going next time, Gallagher Girl," he joked. The girl chuckled. She wasn't dumbfounded like most girls were when Chase talked to them. She was cool.
"My apologies, sir," she said with a smile. He grinned at her.
"Hey, who are you?" He asked. Maybe he was asking about her name. Maybe he was asking to hear her cover. Deep down Chase knew that he was asking to hear every detail about her. He wanted to know everything.
"I'd tell you," she said nodding, considering her options. Then she grinned. "But then I'd have to kill you." This girl wasn't like every other girl. She wasn't a fake. She was keeping things real.
"Come on, Gallagher Girl, why so mysterious?" He teased.
"Why so curious?" She asked back. She laughed and he found his guard falling down.
"Hey," he said, surprised by how serious his tone had turned. She noticed it too. "Let me get to know you." The girl shook her head softly.
"Sorry, I like to remain a mystery," she replied. She winked and Chase had to check to make sure he hadn't drooled. This girl could have been honeypotting him. If he was being honest, he'd happily let her. "Besides, you don't want to get to know me. Somethings are better off left unsaid. Sometimes the cover is better than the legend." He tried to read her eyes. He knew that she wasn't lying. He knew that there was something that pained her. He knew her past was scarred.
The girl gave him a final smile. It wasn't bright this time. A part of it was... sad? She turned and began to walk away. Chase noticed his sister Anna walking towards him. He grabbed her arm.
"What can you tell me about that girl?" He blurted. Anna raised her eyebrows. She grinned.
"I can tell you that's she out of your league," Anna replied.
"Hahaha, you're not funny," Chase said with a glare. Anna shrugged like she thought that she was.
"Well how about a hello? Where've you're been?" She asked.
"Mission," he muttered. "How have you been? Are you being... smart?" He watched his sisters grin fall. He watched the hurt cross her eyes. Chase balled his hands into fists. The boy that his sister had been seeing last semester had hurt her. Badly.
"Yeah," she whispered. He nodded. She looked up into his eyes. Chase couldn't help it anymore. He didn't care that he was the tough, cocky guy. He grabbed his little sister and pulled her into a tight hug.
"I've missed you, Anna banana," he whispered.
"I've missed you too," his sister responded. At that moment, they both knew that they were exactly where they were supposed to be. She sighed. "So what do you want to know about her?"
"Everything," Chase replied cooly. Anna shrugged.
"I don't know everything. We've all got our covers. Her name is Bree Morrison. She's the best honeypot I've ever seen. She's not really like that, though. She's one of the sweetest people I've ever met. Whenever there's a break she stays at her grandpa's farm in Kansas. She's really down to Earth," Anna replied.
"Does she-" Chase began, but cut himself off. Luckily his sister knew him better than anyone else in the world.
"No, she doesn't know what Blackthorne really is," Anna assured. Chase nodded, full of relief. Anna kept studying him.
   "What?" He asked.
"Oh nothing," she replied. "I just didn't expect you to be so... you." Anna didn't know it, but that was the best thing anyone could have ever said to him. He smirked at her, feeling his cockiness return.
"So," he began. "Who's this guy that I'm going to beat up?" Anna smiled, but he could see that it was forced.
"Don't worry," she said. "He's nobody. There's no one anymore. There can't be." She was sad. Chase hugged her again.
"That's because there's no one in the world that's good enough for my little sister," he said. She smiled.  She checked her watch. It was time to go. She started walking away.
   "Oh, and Chase?" She turned.
   "Ya?"
   "I love you."
   "I love you more."
