Annalise Goode had been stressed all week. Someone had given her a brush pass! The note said to be smart, the exact same thing Chase had written on his note. She thought that maybe Chase was tailing her. She didn't like that idea. She was also stressed because this was the day that she had to break up with the worlds sweetest guy.
She sat at the sophomore table in the grand hall during dinner. She sat alone. Her friends sat at the opposite end of the table. Caroline shot her glares and Diana gave her apologetic glances.
"Hey," Adalind said, sliding into the chair next to her. "Everything all set for tonight?"
"Yes," Anna sighed. "Diana is running comms and you and Amelia will tail us." Adalind nodded.
"Hey, we're not just doing this because we like to break the rules. We really do care about you and want you safe. Something tells me that tonight we'll be moral support," Adalind said. Anna nodded and watched her go.
Anna caught a glimpse of blonde hair and turned. Bree strolled into the grand hall. She didn't have the bounce in her step. She looked tired. She caught Anna's eye and gave her a smile. It wasn't the bright Bree smile that Anna had come to love. It was forced. Anna nodded to her. She wondered where her friend had gone. She wondered what things she had seen that were making her act this way.
Before leaving to dump Cason, Anna stopped by her grandmothers office.
"Grandma? Grandpa?" She knocked on the door. It opened and she saw Mr. Solomon sitting on the couch smiling at her. Rachel was opening the door and beaming at her granddaughter.
"Hey, kiddo. What's up?" Rachel asked. Anna pondered what she was going to say.
"It's about one of my friends. I'm worried about her. She's acting... different," Anna stuttered. Solomon nodded as if he understood, which, he probably did.
"Perhaps you're speaking about Ms. Morrison?" He guessed. She nodded. Rachel raised her eyebrows and nodded.
"Sorry, kiddo, it's classified," Rachel said. Of course it was, everything in Anna's life was classified. "She's just going through some things. We all do, just be a good friend to her." Anna nodded and left.
She knew she wasn't going to get anything out of her grandparents. Now that they had seen her tonight, they would think she was at the school if someone asked anything. Anna ran to her favorite secret passageway and left to break up with her first boyfriend.

Anna and Cason walked for a few minutes. Her heart was pounding. Her palms were sweaty. She knew that this was something that she had to do. She turned to him.
"Cason?" She asked. She had already prepared her lie. He looked at her. "I have to tell you something. I'm transferring to a boarding school in Australia. It's kind of like a foreign exchange program. I won't be able to keep contact with you and I can't do that to you, we have to break up." Anna's voice cracked. He looked at her like he could see right through her lie. Than he smiled, yes actual smiling!
"Hey, it's okay. I can wait for you," he said. Her heart sunk. He was the sweetest guy.
"I can't make you do that," she whispered as her vision blurred.
"I want to. I'll wait for you as long as it takes," he said with a smile. Anna frowned.
"You'll wait for me as long as it takes?" She repeated loudly. She knew what he had said, she was just trying to get help from Diana on the comms.
"CJ you have to end this," Diana said. She was using code names. Anna's was CJ, it stood for chameleon junior.
"I don't know how you can do that," Annalise said. Her message wasn't for Cason, it was for Diana.
"It'll be easy. That's what you do for the people you love," Cason replied. He loved her? Anna's heart was pounding.
"CJ end it now. Something isn't right. The signal is being jammed. End it! Be mean!" Diana coached. Anna sighed and let a single tear fall from her eyes.
"But I don't love you," she whispered. Cason looked at her. She saw the pain in his eyes.
  "What?" He asked quietly.
"I'm sorry, I need to get away from you. I don't want this. I don't want you," she snapped. She felt all of the tears coming on. She was lying. She didn't want to do this.
"Oh," Cason replied softly. She saw his eyes glisten. "Okay."
"Anna! You've got company! Something is wrong. Adalind! Amelia!" Diana was shouting through the comms. "I- I can't- it's- help..." the comms cracked. Diana went radio silent. Anna perked up. Something was seriously wrong. She realized that the streets that had once had couples walking and children playing were empty. It was quiet... too quiet.
"Anna!" She heard someone scream. She turned and saw a man lunging at her. She watched in horror as she saw a light brown blur crash into the man and knock him to the ground. It was Adalind. Another attacker rushed from the side and received a kick to the face from Amelia. More and more men came. The girls were outnumbered.
"Anna? What's going on?" Cason shouted. Anna has almost forgotten that he was there. She swiped an attackers feet out from under them and shouted, "run!" Cason wasn't trained. He wasn't smart. He didn't know that the girls were stronger than him. Maybe that was why he shouted, "no! I'm not leaving you!"
Anna was slower. She couldn't fight as well as the twins. She was only an 8th grader. That didn't stop her. She kicked and punched and thrashed as hard as she could. She heard a sickening snap and heard Amelia scream. She dropped to the ground, clutching her arm. Adalind turned to her sister. Her attacker to the opportunity to give her a blow. Adalind crashed into the wall and crippled to the ground.
The 5 men that were left turned to Anna. This was it. Not only was she outnumbered, she was out trained. She was getting ready to surrender when she saw a flash of strawberry blonde hair. Caroline jumped onto 1 attackers head and began strangling him.
Anna and Caroline fought back to back. Diana came sprinting and crashed into another attacker. She was out of breath. It was 3 on 5. Anna and Diana both knew that Caroline was the bottom of their class in P&E and it seemed like their attackers knew too.
Then, someone flew over a fence. That someone did an aerial. An attacker tried to swipe her legs, but the girl did a back flip and kicked him once she landed. The attacker fell to his knees. The girl looked up. Her blonde hair flew over her head and she gave the group her beautiful smile. Bree.
The girls rushed to Adalind and Amelia's side. Amelia's arm was broken, so they were able to get her standing on her feet. Adalind was unconscious and bleeding from the head. The girls formed a circle around the twins and fought.
All of their attackers dropped to the ground. That was when the last one pulled out a gun and pointed it at Caroline's head.
"No!" Someone screamed. Anna wasn't sure who screamed it, it might have been her. She watched as Bree stepped in front of Caroline. The man had the gun pointed at Bree's head, but she didn't quiver. She stood tall and had a confident look on her face. The man studied her, then ran the opposite direction.
The girls were stunned. They were all thinking the same thing. It was the boy that they had forgotten about that spoke. They turned to look at a mortified Cason. He looked at them all like they were crazy and shouted, "what just happened?"
