Things stayed quiet for a while. Catherine never showed herself. Their constant searching for her was getting them nowhere. With no one in the way, the kids did what kids were made to do, they grew up.
Chase had been fiercely protective over his family since he was extremely young. When Anna broke her arm, Chase picked her up and carried her to her family. Chase calmed her nerves while she was at the doctors getting her cast. Chase was the very first to sign it and make her laugh.
With the children growing up, Cammie and Zach had to think of what they were going to do when it came time to send them to school. They were thinking of sending Chase to Blackthorne. Of course the school had done wonderful things for Zach when it came to his field work. Zach was also nervous it would turn Chase into something that he wasn't. But when Chase excelled in his self defense classes, it became obvious that he wouldn't be happy at any other school.
Chase started to look more and more like Zach every day. They really did look the exact same. Cammie noticed early on that Chase's voice was resembling Zach's. The day Chase smirked for the first time was one of Zach's proudest moments. His dark hair and emerald eyes were going to be captivating to girls. Cam knew from seeing how other girls swooned over Zach.
Anna became a very happy child. Her energy levels were admirable. She had one of the kindest souls her parents had ever witnessed. The thought of her getting broken with Catherine made them sick. Anna took her mother's hair and eye color. Her blue eyes were piercing, and her dirty blonde hair was always in ringlet curls. Anna had freckles that Rachel swear came from Matthew. Anna was going to be a pavement artist, just like her mom. If she didn't want to be seen, you would never see her. However, if she wanted to be seen, you wouldn't be able to take your eyes off of her.
Chase and Anna really became something like best friends. They did everything together. They got in fights, as all siblings do, but always made up within minutes. Cammie knew that when they would have to send their children to different schools it would crush them. Instead, they cherished the moments that they had.
Chase was a good big brother to Anna. He was even better when his little brother, Riley Joe Goode, was born. Chase was 6 when Riley was born. Riley proved to be a beautiful combination of his parents. He sported Cammie's eyes and Zach's hair. His little giggle was infectious. Chase did an excellent job showing him the ropes of life. Anna adored little Riley and treated him as one of her baby dolls.
When Riley was born the family traded out their shiny black sports car for a shiny black Cadillac SUV. It was extremely fancy and they all wore their sunglasses in it.
Three years after Riley's birth, Cammie and Zach had their last child. She was a beautiful baby girl named Jaycee Grace Goode. Jaycee was really the piece that their family had been missing. She stood out from the rest of her siblings. She had blonde hair that Rachel told Cam her grandma Morgan had back in the day. The siblings all spoiled Jaycee, and cared deeply for her.
The day the Goode's took a 12 year old Chase to Blackthorne was a sad moment for them. Anna cried and held on to him, begging him to stay. Six year old Riley pouted. He didn't want one of his role models to leave. Three year old Jaycee simply clung to his knee, she didn't understand what was going on yet.
"If even for a second you think that this isn't what you want or this school is turning you into something you're not, call us. Things are changing here, but some of the curriculum is the same," Zach started. Chase nodded. The family wasn't allowed to go any further past BlackThorne fences. "We'll see you every time your school has a break. Be strong, this school will force you to be. Be yourself, so that we don't lose our son to this school."
"When you're a sophomore you'll get to go on a school exchange with the school Aunt Liz and grandma and grandpa are at. Hopefully Anna will be a 7th grader by then, and you 2 can have a semester together. But Chase, are you sure this is what you want?" Cammie asked. Chase flashed his mother the same grin his father did. And Cam had her answer. "Dad and I love you, Chase. And we are so proud of you."
Anna was still crying and holding on to him. Chase had been holding her for a long time, but finally turned her to face him. "Stay safe, Anna. You know how people still want to get their hands on you. If you're ever in trouble call, scream, yell, whatever it is I'll hear it and I'll find you. I won't ever let anyone hurt you," he said giving her a firm hug. Anna nodded.
"I'm going to miss you," she blubbered. Then she grinned the Goode grin. "But I know you're going to dominate here and always be at the top of your class."
That was that. The Goode family watched as Chase walked through Blackthorne gates. They knew exactly what type of person was going in. Zach and Cammie, however, worried about exactly what type of person would come out.
