2 months later...
It was 3 AM when I was being shaken awake. I rolled over and tried to ignore it. The voice got louder.
"Cam," Zach tried. "Gallagher Girl wake up. Please wake up. Come on, Cammie."
"Mmmm," I responded. I opened my eyes. Zach was staring at me. He was wearing a black jacket and dark jeans. He looked concerned and sorry.
"I just got called in for a mission," he explained "I don't know how long but I have to leave right away."
"No," I whined. I didn't want him to leave, not a single bit.
"I'm sorry, but it's urgent. I'm sorry, Cam," he apologized. I sighed. I knew it was important.
"Be safe," I softly replied. He kissed me.
"Always. You too. I love you, I will do everything I can to get back to you," he replied. It was what we always said when we left. And with one final kiss he was gone.
I knew there was absolutely no way I was going to sleep now, instead I huffed and rolled out of bed. I made myself coffee and sat in our living room.
I sighed. The worst part about being married to a spy is the uncertainty. Never knowing when your spouse will come back, or if they even will. That's why I liked when Zach and I went on missions together. I could keep him safe all the time. For now I had to trust Zach's skills. Zach is a talented agent, nothing would go wrong.... or so I thought.

Two weeks had passed. I hadn't heard anything from Zach. I had gone on 3 small missions, always expecting him to be home once I got back. He never was.
On Thursday of the second week I heard the 3 loud beeps and watched as the picture frame of Zach and I flipped around and a scanner scanned our house. When the sweep was done I heard a voice through the loud speakers.
"Agent Cameron Goode, the CIA requests your presence immediately," it boomed. I tossed down my magazine where I had been reading Tina Walter's gossip column and ran out of the house.
I ran down the dark alley until I found the derelict-looking door. I punch a code into the box and turn the knob. I enter the room and wait as the red line sweeps across my eyes. I hold my hand to the sensor and wait until the door swings open. I rush down the stairs.
"Townsend?" I say once I've entered the room. He's pacing. I've known my ex teacher/uncle/father-in-law for a long time. I know for a fact that he only paces when something is terribly wrong.
"Cameron," he says when he sees me. It's still weird hearing him refer to me as something other than Ms. Morgan. "Have a seat." I sit down and Townsend runs his hands through his hair. He looks exactly like Zach does when he's stressed.
"What happened?" I ask, trying not to let my voice crack. He looks me in the eye. He speaks cautiously, as if he's scared his words could kill me.
"Zach missed a call in over 24 hours ago. We can officially declare him MIA," he sighs. My throat feels hot. I feel tears welling up.
"Where did he go?" I asked. Townsend gave me a look that terrified me. I don't think I'd ever seen Townsend look as scared as he did when he spoke.
"He went to Rome." I gasp. I try to hold my composure. "You know him better than anyone, Cameron. You know how he fights, how he hides, you know the way he works. If anyone will be able to find him it's you," he says with a nod. He sounds confident. I'm not.
