Chapter 15: The Escape

Zachary Goode watched in terror as he saw his little sister say "She's Zach's mommy". He watched his wife gape at the camera that had been filming them. He watched Cammie put a hand up and the camera and audio went black.

"She's figured it out, get her!" Zach's mother yelled.

"No!" Zach screamed. He continued to watch the TV. He looked at the small squares that showed all of the other cameras in the house. The audio for the hallway outside of Morgan's room was working. Zach could hear Cammie mumbling things. He watched her run out of the room.

"Matthew!" Cammie shouted. She ran to Matthew's room and began shaking him. She had Morgan in tow. "'Matthew wake up! we have to get out of here!" Zach gaped at the screen. His siblings looked scared. Zach watched the terror cross Cammie's face as someone knocked on the door.

"Cammie what's happening?" Morgan cried. She was shaking. Cammie looked at the kids.

"You know how your mom and dad work for the good guys? And then there's the bad guys that your parents bring in. The people outside the door, they're the bad guys. We've got to get away from them," Cammie explained.

"The roof!" Matthew exclaimed. Cam looked at him questioningly. She turned to Morgan.

"There's a hidden staircase in the ceiling. It leads into a tight space that has a latter. The latter leads to the roof. Mom and dad say that it's only for emergencies," Morgan explained. Cammie nodded.

"Let's go." Cam grabbed the small handle in the ceiling and yanked down the wooden stairs. The kids ran up the stairs. Cam followed and pulled the stairs back up. She was just in time. Catherine's goons had just kicked down the door.

"C Team, there's a staircase that leads to the roof. B Team, let's surprise them at the top," Catherine said. She was grinning at Zach.

"No!" Zach screamed. He pulled on his chains. He was shocked to feel one side snap. He looked at Catherine, she hadn't noticed. He knew he needed to be smart about this.

"Alright A Team, turn on some cameras and audios on the roof," Catherine said into her walkie talkie. Zach saw the TV switch to the roof. He heard the sound of someone kicking metal and watched as a trap door opened. Cammie and the twins crawled out. He saw Cammie's fear as she saw the men in masks standing near her.

"Kids, I need you to do something for me," she said to the twins. Morgan quivered.

"Cammie what's going on?" Matthew asked.

"I'm going to do some things that are going to be scary to you 2. Please turn around and cover your eyes. Do not turn around no matter what you hear. Sing your favorite song as loud as you can to cancel out the noise," Cammie pleaded.

"Cammie!" Matthew whined.

"Do it!" She snapped and the kids did as they were told. Cammie turned to the masked men. "Come on, guys. You're gonna fight a pregnant lady? That's just low."

One of the men placed a kick inches from her face. She dodged it. Another man tried to punch her. She grabbed his arm and flipped him over her shoulder. A different man swiped her legs and knocked her to the ground. She held her stomach.

The fighting lasted for what seemed like forever. Catherine watched like an excited child on Christmas morning. Zach cringed every time the men made contact with Cammie. The twins kept singing louder and louder. Zach watched in horror as one of the men pulled his fist back and held Cammie's shirt with the other hand. He was going to knock her out cold.

"No!" Zach screamed. The attacker pulled his fist back. Cam closed her eyes. After a few seconds she opened them. Zach breathed a sigh of relief as he saw why the fist wasn't making contact with Cammie's face. Bex was standing behind him holding it.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," another voice said. Bex kneed the man in the face and he fell to the ground. Within a second the other attackers leaped to Bex. Bex and her partner took them all on. Fists and kicks flew. Zach smiled as he realized his best friend, Grant, was Bex's partner.

Grant pulled Cam to her feet with 1 swift motion. He kissed her on the cheek. "Let's get out of here, Cam." She smiled. Bex grabbed Matthew and Morgan and Cammie walked over to a passed out attacker and grabbed his walkie talkie.

"Catherine," she said. Zach heard the voice ring through Catherine's walkie talkie. Catherine was frowning. "I know you were the one who did this. I promise you that when I find you, I will kill you." Zach shivered. Cam looked scary. She sounded scary. He knew that she meant it.
"Ditto," Catherine whispered into the walkie talkie.

"Oh, and Catherine? A Gallagher Girl always calls for backup."

Catherine slammed her walkie talkie onto the ground. She turned to Zach and was greeted with a hit to the face. She collapsed to the ground. Zach had gotten out of his chains. He desperately wanted to kill her, but he heard the voices of the people walking towards the room. Zach took his chance and ran.

He fled away from his mother and towards his future. Towards his adorable son and beautiful wife. He fled towards his unborn daughter. He swore to always protect her. No one would touch her without going through him.
