Annalise Goode was being tailed. She knew that she was. The sad thing about the whole situation was that she couldn't do anything about it. The tail was her new body guard, Kira Shane.
"Kira can you please put some distance between us? You're stepping on my shoes," Anna whined.
"Do you want to get killed?" Kira snapped. Anna sighed. She wished she had gotten a body guard that actually cared about her.
"Why don't you talk to Bree? She was really upset the other night," Anna said. She hated seeing Bree upset.
"Oh please, what do you know about sibling drama?" Kira asked with the roll of her eyes.
"I know a lot. My big brother is my best friend. He's really made Bree happy. I can tell they really like each other," Anna said with a smile. She thought that Kira would be happy to know that her sister found someone that completed her. Kira frowned deeply.
"Chase Goode? My sister likes Chase Goode?" Kira said as if she was disgusted. Anna was taken aback. Why wouldn't a person like Chase? He was thoughtful and protective and strong. He was also insanely attractive. Any girl would be lucky to date her brother.
"He's a great guy," Anna offered. Kira scoffed and Anna felt small and stupid.
"I'm sure he is," Kira said. Something in her tone told Anna that she definitely didn't mean it.
"He is," Anna said getting defensive. "Why are you even here, Kira? I know it's not to protect me." Kira grinned.
"Now you're finally asking the right questions," she replied. Anna glared at her. She tried to be nice, but that obviously wasn't working.
"Why are you here?" She repeated again. Kira laughed, a cruel sound.
"The circle is after you, correct? And there are many bad people in the circle. Many who my colleagues would like to bring in. Truly I say, many of my colleagues wouldn't mind if you were dead on the ground if it meant that they got they wanted. They don't want you, doll. They don't care about you," Kira said sharply. Anna's throat burned. Kira was going to let her die. She needed a new body guard.
"Bree would be furious," Anna managed to squeak. Kira scoffed.
"Bree is too young to understand. She's always too young to understand. Listen to me as I tell you this: I am the good guy," Kira whispered.
"The good guy would never just let me die," Anna snapped as she continued walking down the hall.
"I thought you were supposed to be a genius," Kira yelled down the hall. "Haven't you ever heard of a casualty?"
*                                         *                                           *
"She's nuts you guys! She called me a casualty! She admitted that she was going to let me die just to get to the circle. I figured I was always going to die young, but not this young!" Anna sighed and fell to the couch. Her roommates were looking concerned. Well, Caroline looked concerned. Diana looked pissed.
"We're not going to let that happen. Do you understand me?" Diana asked. Anna nodded weakly. Diana sighed and hugged Anna. "This will end." Anna nodded. She was afraid that if she spoke she would start crying.
"When are we going to get you a bloody new bodyguard?" Adalind asked as she strolled into the suite.
"Yeah, I really don't like this Kira girl. I don't care if she's related to Bree. They're nothing alike," Amelia added. The twins made their way across the room and sat on Anna's bed.
"Maybe Kira is actually adopted," Caroline said with wide eyes. She shoved her glasses farther up her face.
"No," Diana said with the shake of her head. "They have the same eyes. They're definitely sisters."
"But how can Bree be so nice when Kira is so... so," Caroline stuttered.
"Mean," Anna finished. Caroline nodded. Caroline wiped the top of the book shelf and sneezed. Her glasses fell and she pushed them back up her nose. "Where is Bree?"
"We all have our own lives to live, hon," Adalind said with a laugh. "Not all of us have the easy life of being freshman. I heard that the junior class went into town for a coveops assignment."
"I can't believe we're going to take covert operations next year," Caroline said with a shake of her head. "I wonder what they did."
"We tailed people. Regular people. It should have been easy," Bree said as she leaned against the doorway. She looked scared.
"You okay, Breezy?" Amelia asked using a nickname.
"No, I'm not. I had 2 tails on me. No one else did. I didn't even complete my mission because I got too paranoid," Bree said with a sigh.
"Were your tails men? Maybe they were with the group that attacked us," Anna questioned. Bree shook her head.
"No. They were boys. Except they weren't. They were more than that. They were probably a year older than me. Maybe a year younger. They weren't normal boys. They're were-" Bree was cut off.
"Blackthorne Boys!" Diana exclaimed with wide eyes. Bree nodded. "Maybe it was Chase. He's stalking you!"
"No," Anna said, getting defensive. "Chase wouldn't do that. Not ever. The only reason that he would send people to follow you would be if he was scared. Really scared. You'd have to be in great danger."
"I know," Bree admitted. "But that's the thing, he wouldn't. He only sent post cards to you when you were in danger. He never sent a tail. If he wouldn't do it for you then he wouldn't do it for me. He warned you. I haven't heard from him since he left last semester."
"He's a bloody Blackthorne Boy," Amelia said. "He's busy. His training is not easy." The rest of the girls agreed.
"But this is serious," Adalind said. "We need to tell someone." Bree groaned.
"I already sent a letter to Cammie. I don't know if she got it," Bree told the group. They all hoped that Cammie had received it and went their separate ways.
Anna was walking back to her suite after a long day of school work with Kira right on her tail.
"Could you please stop stepping on my shoes?" Anna grumbled. She's knew that Kira was doing it on purpose. Kira did it again and Anna whipped around and stepped on Kira's shoe. Hard. Kira shouted out in pain. She pinched Anna's arm.
"Listen you little twerp! I don't care if you die. I'm not here for you. I'm here to figure out what this school is hiding. Your grandmother is not fit to be headmistress. She's biased and your family members keep sneaking out. Now you stay out of my way or I will hand you over to Catherine like a Christmas present," Kira snapped. Anna's eyes went huge. She kneed Kira in the gut and ran as fast as she could to Bree's suite.
"Bree!" She shouted as she banged on the door. Bree opened it and gave her a puzzled look. "We have to go see my grandma! Your sister threatened me! She's here to prove that my grandma is unfit to be headmistress."
"Let's go!" Bree said. She wrapped her arm around Anna's and together they ran to Rachel Solomon's office. The door was shut and Anna began banging on it.
"Grandma let me in! It's Anna, I need to talk to you!" She cried. The door opened and Anna stepped back. Her grandma opened the door wider and Anna gasped.
"Cammie?" Bree said. Anna look at the sight of her beautiful mother. Cammie was leaning against the wall, popping M&M's into her mouth. Her hair was in a high pony and she flashed the girls a smile.
"Hey girls," she said happily. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the post card that Anna and Bree had sent to her a week before. "You called?"
