THE NEXT DAY

"You went to see Baba and Deda without me?" Genevieve confronts as she barges into the room unannounced. Carmilla and Jane spin their heads at the furious Genevieve, completely taken aback by her sudden appearance.

"You really shouldn't barge in like that, you're lucky we're just cuddling '' Carmilla states calmly as she twirls Jane's hair through her fingers, making Jane smack her on the shoulder in a scold. "Ow" Carmilla exclaims, nonplussed by Jane's attack as she scowls.

"Did they at least ask how I was doing?" Genevieve asks with a somber tone, her body approaching Carmilla and Jane, curious to know if they're missing her.

"Of course they did" Jane assures as Genevieve sits down at the foot of the bed. "They were asking about you and Cole" she finishes as she lifts her body up to face her.

"That's good, we should go see them soon, all of us," Genevieve suggests.

"Yeah, we should," Jane responds. A muted ping grabs Carmilla's attention as Jane and Genevieve continue their conversation, their voices fading away as she stares at the text message on Jane's phone.

ISABELLA:

[I MISS YOUR FACE]

Carmilla P.O.V.

Who is this? I blink to confirm that I am not hallucinating, only to blink again to double check. I glance at the lit screen in front of me once again, my eyes adjusting as I process each letter like it was a calligraphic message written in Morse code. No one is playing some sick trick on me, the message I am seeing was in fact real. I feel my eyes redden involuntarily, as though sand is filling up my windpipes, not allowing me to grab a breath. My mind flashes back to the moment in the hospital. Could it be? No, it can't be.

I open the chat as I press on her profile picture, my eyes getting caught in the brown eyes I so distinctly remember. There she is. My eyes twitch as I'm frozen in my position, the voices in my head telling me I was right all along, it's not me. I feel my heart sink to my stomach as I piece it all together. I wasn't insecure after all. I tried to call her name to get her to explain, but I couldn't, my lungs wouldn't let me speak.

"Carmilla? Hello, did you hear what I said?" Genevieve's voice snaps me out, causing me to turn my head away from the phone.

"Uh, no. Sorry, what did you say?" I respond in a rasp. My mind is somewhere else but I can't do this in front of Genevieve, I need her to leave so I can talk to Jane.

Genevieve rolls her eyes as Jane analyzes me. She knows something is wrong, I can feel it. "Are you okay, babe?" she questions innocently. She can't be serious.

"Yeah, yeah. I just feel a little dizzy, I forgot to take my pain medication today" I bluff, hoping that will get Genevieve to leave the room. "I just need to get some rest"

Genevieve stands up and makes her way to me, placing her palm on my head. "Are you sure? Do you want me to call the doctor? You look a little pale" she says gently. I nod in dismissal at her words. Just leave, Genevieve.

"No, no, it's fine, really. Do you mind leaving? I'll rest for a bit and then we can talk.'' I plead as Jane lays down behind me, her arms wrapping around me for support. Genevieve exhales deeply before retreating her hand away from me.

"Okay, let me know if you need anything" she urges softly before backing her body away towards the door. My body jolts slightly when the door closes, leaving Jane trapped in the room with me.

"How long has this been going on?" I ask flatly with my back to her. I can't look at her, the thought of her doing this while I was in a coma makes me nauseous.
