Finding you, Part 8, Chapter 46 — At General Hospital — Rae was in her office crying when Alan walked in. "Rae, what is it?" Alan asked. "Alan, why are you here?" Rae replied. "I need a file, but it can wait. What is it?" Alan asked as he sat down beside Rae. "I just found out I have breast cancer. Dr. Kelly caught it early and wants to perform a double mastectomy," Rae explained. "Oh no. Look, Rae, I know it's scary, but you will get through this," Alan said. "I just don't know if I want to lose my breast," Rae admitted. "You need to talk to someone," Alan suggested. "Who?" Rae inquired. "Monica. She had the same thing," Alan replied. They both got up as the door was still opening. "Did you still love Monica without any breasts? Could you make love to her the same?" Rae asked. "Yes, I love Monica for who she is, not her breasts," Alan said. They shared a hug as Monica entered. "What is going on?" Monica asked. "Rae talked to Monica about this and then Skye," Alan said and left. "What is going on?" Monica asked. "I was just told I have breast cancer," Rae said. "Oh, Rae," Monica responded, hugging her. "Dr. Kelly wants me to do a double mastectomy. How did you know it was right for you?" Rae asked. "I had to save my life; it was the only way. Yes, I had doubts about still feeling like a woman and whether Alan would still love me, but he did, and I'm glad I did it—for myself and my family," Monica explained. "I guess I have to do it," Rae said. "You're not alone. Now, you should go tell Skye," Monica encouraged. "Yeah, I just hope Skye stays clean," Rae said. "Skye hasn't had a drink in a long time with everything that happened to her. She's stayed strong," Monica added. "That's true," Rae agreed. "Rae, you're not alone. You're family, too, in a way," Monica said. "Thank you for accepting Skye and me into your family. I know it wasn't easy," Rae expressed. "No, but we don't do easy," Monica replied. "No," Rae said.
