Finding You, Genevieve Chapter 4

At Genevieve's penthouse, Genevieve was trying not to cry. "I'm so sorry. I know it hurts, but I'm not the mother kind. Princess is lucky to be alive—only because I hired a dog walker. I love my career, and I wasn't going to let anyone stop me, no matter how many people got hurt. My own family hates that I'm a criminal lawyer," Genevieve said.

"Why would your family hate your career?" Bianca asked.

"Because my father is in the mob, and every time something happens in this town, they come looking for my father," Genevieve explained.

"Oh, did Alexander come back to town?" Bianca asked.

"Yes, four years later, after the wedding. He hoped we could just pick up where we left off," Genevieve replied.

"If Alexander hadn't left you, would you have kept me?" Bianca asked.

"Probably. Your father comes from a powerful family. To them, blood means everything. Alexander was so upset when I told him I gave you up," Genevieve said.

"Even though I was a girl?" Bianca questioned.

"Yes," Genevieve responded.

"So, you turned to Alexander's brother when he left you?" Bianca asked.

"I don't want to talk about Victor. Besides, it's over," Genevieve said.

"Fine. Where is Alexander? I would like to meet him," Bianca inquired.

"You can't. He's dead," Genevieve said, crying for the first time in front of Bianca.

There was a knock on the door. Genevieve pulled herself together and opened it—there stood Skye and Lorenzo.

"Mother, Daddy," Genevieve said.

"We thought you might need us," Skye said.

Bianca came into the room.

"So, this is—" Lorenzo began.

"Yes, I'm Bianca," she said.

"Hello, Bianca. I'm Skye, and this is my husband Lorenzo. It's nice to meet you. Why don't we go have some breakfast?" Skye suggested.

Bianca couldn't help but notice how different Skye was from Genevieve.

"Sure, I'm getting hungry," Bianca said.

"Alright, let's go," Lorenzo agreed.

"Sure," Genevieve said.
