Finding You, Genevieve, Chapter 35
At the Courthouse—Lorenzo and Luis Jr. on trial—"Your Honor, I call my last witness to the stand, Skylar Alcazar Webber," Genevieve said. Skylar got up and swore in. "Mrs. Webber, what happened the day you were sixteen years old and got the new car you wanted?" Genevieve asked. "I went driving and I lost control of the car," Skylar said. "Were you hurt in the accident?" Genevieve asked. She hated asking her sister this. "Yes, I was," Skylar replied. "What happened to you?" Genevieve inquired. "I lost so much blood that they had to do a hysterectomy on me, even though I was too young. It was either that or I would die," Skylar said, wiping her tears. "Did you find out what happened to your brakes?" Genevieve asked. "Yes, someone played with them," Skylar replied. "Do you know who?" Genevieve asked. "Yes, it was Luis, my father's brother—who hates my father," Skylar said. "I'm done, Your Honor," Genevieve said. "I have no questions for this witness," Peter said. "Are you done with all your witnesses, Ms. Quartermaine?" the judge asked. "Yes, Your Honor," Genevieve replied. "Yes, Your Honor," Peter confirmed. "Are you both ready for closing statements?" the judge inquired. "Yes," Genevieve said. "Yes," Peter agreed. Genevieve took a sip of her water and looked at Skylar, who gave her a dirty look. "Ms. Quartermaine, are you ready?" the judge asked. "Yes, Your Honor," Genevieve responded. She set her water down and looked at the jury. "You have learned in this trial that even Mr. Lorenzo Alcazar's family is hurt by his choices in life. One daughter, Skylar, was in an accident at sixteen and had to undergo a hysterectomy; she can never be a mother. Another daughter lost a baby, and a son was taken from his mother. You haven't heard anything about me, but this is why I became a lawyer—to put away bad guys who make terrible choices, thinking they can kill people and get away with it. Lorenzo Alcazar was caught with drugs before; this time, he will pay for it. I hope you find Lorenzo Alcazar and Luis Alcazar guilty and sentence them to ten to twenty years in jail," Genevieve said. "Ms. Quartermaine only wants her father to pay for this because she's angry—that's all this is about. I hope you find both Mr. Lorenzo and Mr. Luis not guilty of this," Peter responded. The jury left to deliberate. Genevieve went back to her table, picked up her bag. Skylar approached. Lorenzo looked at Genevieve and noticed a bracelet she was wearing. "How can you do that to me?" Skylar asked. "I didn't want to; I had to," Genevieve said. "No, you didn't. You know what that did to me," Skylar replied. "You hate him too? When it happened, remember, you stayed at the mansion for a while," Genevieve said. "Yes, I know. You had no right to throw that pain in my face," Skylar said, then left. Victor approached. "Let's go," Victor said as Lila Rae came by. "I hope Victor and Bianca are all the family you need," Lila Rae said. "Leave Ginny alone," Victor responded. "It's okay, Lila Rae. I do love you, but I will not stand by and let him do this," Genevieve said. "Him? You can change your last name, but he's still your father," Lila Rae replied and left. "Are you okay?" Victor asked. "I didn't want to do that, but I had to," Genevieve said. "I know," Victor replied.
